Alice C. Wainwright Park is a bayfront nature reserve and park that spans 28 acres and offers stunning views of Biscayne Bay. Set in the northern part of the Coconut Grove area and south side of Brickell, the park features an array of amenities for visitors to stay active, from walking trails to basketball courts and outside exercise equipment.

Named for Alice C. Wainwright, the first woman elected to the Miami City Commission, the park opened in 1972. Since then, it has been a destination for locals and travellers for bike riding, relaxing with a good book, and other recreational pursuits.

Alice C. Wainwright Park highlights

Nature abounds at Alice C. Wainwright Park. There is a closed canopy forest, Brickell Hammock, that features what once was a widespread tropical hardwood hammock, although there is no direct access for visitors. From a lower elevation point, it is possible to see the exposed limestone outcrop of Miami Rock Ridge.

The park itself features a spacious lawn with several picnic shelters and barbecue areas, all of which are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Another recreational facility is a large playground for kids to enjoy. Leashed dogs are welcome to the park, too.

Good to know when visiting Alice C. Wainwright Park

Alice C. Wainwright Park is considered to be one of the most unique coastal parks in Greater Miami because of its rare hardwood hammock elements. There are also shady palm trees, gentle breezes, and inviting benches closer to the water.

There are no dining options on-site or within walking distance, so you may want to pack snacks or a picnic for your visit. The park has a bathroom area, and parking is available on the street nearby. As for visitors with bikes, there are several racks for their use. Along with its scenic beauty, the park is also attractive for budget-minded visitors because it is free.
