6/10 Good

Very comfortable bed, good value, difficult shower
I stayed in a private room with a bunkbed. The bed was extremely comfortable, and there were power outlets next to the bed, which I appreciated. There was one coat rack for hanging items. Aside from this, the room was empty. The shared shower and bathroom area could have been more convenient. For example, there were no hooks in the bathroom for towels, so there was no where to put my towel when I washed my face and brushed my teeth. The shower floor seemed clean, but the area immediately outside of the shower floor was very dirty. So, I had to step immediately from the shower into my socks and shoes. The changing area outside the shower was also very small, so it was difficult to dry myself and get dressed. (Of course, be sure to bring your own towel.) Also, most Japanese buildings have a no-shoes policy, but shoes are allowed everywhere in this building. (I've been in other hostels where you have to remove your shoes when you enter.) The floor was dirty and I felt uncomfortable putting some of my stuff on the floor. But, I think other guests will like being able to wear their shoes. The location was convenient. It is a very short walk from the nearest station, and there is a 7-11 nearby. Overall this hostel was fine for one night. The bed was very comfortable and it was a great value to have my own room. However, the shower and bathroom area needed a few more conveniences. I would not have wanted to stay more than one night.

Hipster Cabin Hotel
I stayed at ArtnShelter for 1 night just to test it out and ended up staying on 3 more nights. The dorm is simple but functional, the bunk-beds are made of wood so they don’t make noise when people get into them. The floors are concrete which, again, reduces unneeded noise. The exhibition space was always full of displays and the bar was a great place to chill and meet other travelers. The first thing that brought me there was the $20/night price tag. WELL WORTH $20. I’d go back.

A place to make friends
It was a just okay experience. I won't recommend it to my friends. If you like to meet strangers and make friends during your trip. This is a great spot to stay. If you are just try to look for a clean, quiet and nice to sleep, then I won't recommend you to stay here. The wall is just way to thin, I practically can hear every bit of sound in the same floor, and I can smell others shoes from next door. So the ear plug is a must !! Overall, it is a great place for youth and will make you feel like staying in foreign country but not like in Japan.

Pleasant, but not suitable for airport stopover
Cheap and clean with a friendly bar downstairs, good for meeting people and chilling, but I wouldn't recommend it as an airport stop-over. The box rooms are comfortable but completely open with just curtains as doors so you hear every sound anyone makes, I managed about 2 hours sleep by the time things quietened down (I had an early flight). You have to carry your luggage up two flights of spiral staircase and taxis don't come to the hostel so you have to go and flag one down at the main road (4000yen each way to the airport). There's a train station nearly but no direct line to the airport and they don't run at night. If sleep isn't important you could save a lot of money by just staying in the airport, if sleep is important pay a bit more for somewhere with doors on the rooms!

2/10 Poor

Stayed one night, checked out early.
I've stayed in hostels before, I knew what to expect, but this was by far my worst hostel experience. The staff were friendly enough but it doesn't make up for my overall experience. The place is called ArtNShelter and they take that literally. It's very much just a place for shelter. This means that the bare essentials. The beds were nothing more than plywood boxes that did nothing to block out the sounds of, well, anything--they don't even reach the ceiling so you really do hear everything. The worst part of my stay was the people. They were loud and inconsiderate--coming back to the hostel around three in the morning and carrying on with a loud party in the bar area--that was perfectly heard back up on the second floor. This was followed by door slamming/banging and loud conversations right outside the bunk area, as well as someone watching videos in their bunk without headphones. At three in the morning. Needless to say, I did not sleep well that night. I checked out early with no hassle. I won't be returning.

First capsule hotel
Samezu station is located in a quiet neighborhood, trains on this line are often express and skips this station. 10 mins walk to Omori station which is more central. The hotel was renovating so there was a smell and rather dusty outside of the rooms. However inside the room was pretty comfy.

Great for short stay budget travellers
Its in shinagawa area - not typical tourist spots but if u spend 10 min walk to Oimachi station, it just takes 15-20 min to central parts of tokyo. A 750 yen one day JR pass can bring u almost everywhere. So its a great place for lone budget traveller. bed and room, facilities are comfy n decent. But still it is a hostel set up, so lots of ppl may pass by if u are an easily-wake-up-by-noise type or couples, it is not suggested to live in.

nice hostel
the hostel is located at a walking distance to the train station. the walls between rooms were not walls, I was in the first room of the hallway, and I can't hear what they said from the girl of the last room of the hallway. there only two shower for the whole floor. the locker was not big enough for my suitcase but I found a good place to store it. the mattress was the most thing I want to said, it just like new, and thick.

Totally recommended!!
ArtNShelter is conveniently located just a couple mins from Samezu train station. Several convenience shops and a food market are near by which make it easy to grab food and drinks when needed. The hostel staff are super friendly and kind. They make sure you stay is a pleasant one not only at the hostel but your vacation in Japan. The bunk beds which are kind of like capsules are very spacious in size so you never feel confined. Sure there may be some improvements done but the place is cozy and safe. My only gripe would be the other guests that stay at the same time. Because you may be on the open dorm floor, expect people to be inconsiderate of other guests. Noise will be a factor and cleanliness of people's luggage, clothes, and other belongings may be all over the place. There was a large group of Europeans who were oblivious to common courtesy during my stay. 6am alarms, laughter and loud noise even when asked to keep it down. Advice, bring ear plugs. If you forget, the front desk does have them for sale. Overall, artNShelter was a great place for you to rest while you enjoy your experience of Japan. Price, location and staff are on point!
