We booked and paid for a 3-night stay 10 weeks in advance. Syd's confirmed our arrival time by email well in advance and kindly arranged airport pickup for us, etc. But 3 days before we arrived Syd sent an email saying they'd overbooked and we could only stay for 2 nights.
She said we'd be accommodated in the suite for 2 nights (we weren't - we were put in the double room) and then we'd be refunded the cost of the 3rd night.
We were already in Cape Verde by this point (Boa Vista), so we were scrambling trying to decide what to do, or where else to stay for the final night.
hotels.com customer service tried to help, but were unable to get hold of anyone at Syd's that spoke English to confirm anything. In the end we just rebooked another hostel ourselves and waited for a refund from Syd's.
When we did arrive at Syd's for check-in, Victor was kind and helpful (Sydney was out of town and we never met her the whole time we were there).
We did get a cash refund for the 3rd night.......but it was massively inconvenient - and frustrating that we'd booked 10 weeks before but were only told we were being bumped off 3 days ahead.
The guest house itself is nice, fairly clean, nice breakfast.
Our first morning (Sunday) was brunch - the server didn't understand any English and kept calling Victor from the kitchen to come and help.
They also wanted to charge us until we told them breakfast was included in our booking.
Lots of people come for brunch so it was noisy all morning.
