Nonsmoking rules violation.
The room supposed to be nonsmoking, however it seems the last person smokes because the room smelled of cigarettes smoke upon my checking into the room. At least the housekeeping staff needs to spray the room to get rid of the cigarette smoke whenever guests violated the nonsmoking rules prior to the next guest checking in.

Stay elsewhere
Front desk unhelpful. Lobby is filthy, gross. People were sleeping in cars in front of hotel. Loitering. Only 5 parking spots for the hotel. Broken TV in room. Fire alarm set off due to "residents" popping popcorn. I have never had such a bad experience at La Quinta. I will second-guess staying at the chain from now on. Do not trust the reviews on this hotel. Stay away.

If you care about price only
Mistaken choice. I booked on the basis of the Brand Name - and thinking it was closer on Atlantic Avenue to where I wanted to go, which was the Barclay and Atlantic Centers neighborhood. The hotel is located in a less prosperous neighborhood in Brooklyn -- what we used to call in NYC, a "welfare hotel." On the upside -- the staff was very friendly and helpful. But... I wouldn't recommend it to any tourist seeking the glories of contemporary Brooklyn, which can be about a mile away down Atlantic Avenue.

Unsafe area---stay away!
was looking for a semi convenient place for the night as I was passing through on business. The room seemed OK, some minor cosmetic touch ups needed, but nothing to write home about. My biggest concern with this property was the safety. I woke up the next morning with a smashed window and missing personal items due to street parking. The response from hotel clerk when I asked for a trash bag to cover the window was wondering why I did not utilize the hotels' parking---I WAS NOT ASKED AT CHECK IN! I was also not made aware of the loading zone ticket I would be getting if I did not move my car by 7am. I would STRONGLY recommend staying at another property if you plan to drive into the NYC region. It is extremely unfortunate that a hotel can not at the very least provide their guests with awareness that you vehicle is not safe on a well lit city street.

The room I was in was very dimly lit and could have been cleaned a bit better (there were some stains on the comforter and in the carpet.) Also a lot of the lamps or appliances were unplugged when I arrived for no apparent reason which was inconvenient. Overall, a decent place to stay but not great. Needs upgrades overall, cosmetic and comfort wise, but it was fine for a night or two.

Not that bad I guess
The parking the hotel gives you isn’t great but they do have the option. Your best bet is to park in the residential area not far from the hotel and walk. It will save you $20 a night for parking which is based on a first come first served. If you do park at the hotel don’t plan on driving because there is only enough space for about 7-8 cars to park. Carpet in hotel and hotel rooms are in need of a deep cleaning or just replaced all together.

Not a great place
When I arrived there was an aggressive man outside asking people for money. It was scary. Inside I was given a choice of two rooms: one in the cellar, the other on floor one facing the trains roaring by. I took the cellar room but the inside lock had been removed so I moved to the noisy first floor room. The TV didn’t work. The faucet in the bathroom was very loose, and the water sprayed in various directions when turned on. And yes, the the trains were noisy.
