4/10 Fair

Don't dare to complain!
On arrival, the room was far smaller than expected and certainly not as per the pictures when selecting the room and, so upon arrival, I rated the check-in (as per Hotels.com email) as fair with my view that it was not what we expected. The reason for this was that the room was very small, had no suitcase stands to place luggage and effectively required me to place a suitcase in front of the door when closed. Not ideal from a fire safety point of view. We met the housekeeper the next morning and she offered some nice banana loaf and coffee and we complimented her with how clean our rooms were. On the first night, the water in the shower was lukewarm and the following morning we had no hot water. The information in the room only listed a cellphone number which I tried to call at 6:40 but got a voice message requesting me to send an SMS. Which I did and only after 2 hours did I get a response. By then I boiled water in the kettle and made a plan for us to wash. The next morning we met the owner, Sabine, and she attacked my wife and me for rating the room "not what we expected". We got in an argument about us not discussing this with them but they were nowhere to be seen. We were actually thinking of checking out due to the very aggressive attitude but as we already paid for one more night decided to stay, but we declined coffee and banana bread that morning! Even though the place was very clean and the housekeeper was super friendly, Sabine ruined our stay.

8/10 Very good

The Cape Colonial is located in a very nice neighborhood, close to Kloof Street, which is full of restaurants and bars. We got a nice but tiny room. The staff was very responsive and helpful. A very simple breakfast is served. I wished they had more croissants available for guests:)

Pleasant and Personal
Our stay at the Cape Colonial was very brief, but very pleasant! Be sure to check-in no later than 8pm, as this is a small guesthouse run by a single (lovely) couple! There was great tea and coffee available at all times and the baked goods available in the morning tasted fresh and possibly homemade. Would definitely stay again!

Quiet clean simplicity
Owner Sabine was efficient and helpful in contacting me beforehand, re check-in. My room had original stripped pine floorboards and a comfortable bed, and plenty of good lighting. An anti-mosquito screen on the window, and better WIFI upstairs might be a good idea. However I have no complaints and thought the property excellently run and managed.

Old style accomodation and old style good service.
Just as the name says, "Old Colonial" Style, relatively spare furnishings, but fresh muffins as a breakfast snack and very friendly service from the co owner Sabina. Close to the Company Gardens, plus Kloof and Long streets, so vibe and tranquility close by.

Great guesthouse in a quiet neighbourhood
We had a lovely stay at The Cape Colonial. The owners helped us with transfer from and to the airport, and gave us some great tips on restaurants and shops in the neighbourhood. Our room had high ceilings, lots of room, a big comfy bed and, best of all, a nice balcony where we enjoyed our tea and muffins and banana bread in the mornings, and some snacks and drinks (buy your own at the local supermarket) in the evenings. There is free WiFi and some books to borrow while you are there, and we also got a free map of the city to help us find our way. The guesthouse is at an easy walking distance to the Company Gardens, the National Gallery, Greenmarket Square and Bo Kaap, and we had no trouble getting around. We'd definitely stay here again next time we come to Cape Town!

Lovely place close to attractions
The hotel is situated in a good location close to the city. There were plenty of food options around so it was very convenient for us. The room we had was extremely clean and spacious. We loved the decor of the room, which has a vintage feel to it. And also, the banana bread and muffins served for breakfast were very delicious. One thing however, as it is an old building, there is understandably no lift so travellers with big luggages will have to bring them up the stairs. Nevertheless we had a very pleasant experience here.

Perfect host, lovely house, great location.
Sabine is the perfect host, she received us as we were long friends. The service they provide goes beyond the expectations. We got all the information and help we needed and she was very helpful on the checkout too. The hotel is a lovely colonial house, in good shape and in a good area, close to city center and many good restaurants. When we return to Cape Town we will look nowhere else.

6/10 Good

Ok, but not what one is led to expect
The property is beautiful and the owner seems very kind. I should start by saying this is not at all a bad place to stay but I do think the place needs to be announced in a different way. It's more like an airbnb than a hotel and that makes a difference when you're not expecting. The first room we had was not good at all but the owner accomodated our request to change rooms the next day. The next room (6) was good-sized, but there were no curtains in the bathroom and we had to hang a towel to avoid being seen by the neighbors just two meters away. Rod, the owner, says the glass blocks any view, but it doesn't, I'm afraid - part of the glass is a perfectly transparent big rose. There were other issues: the bedroom was extremely cold at night and with only one electric heater available and turned on at night only, we really struggled to fall asleep on a cold bed. Every other hotel we stayed in after that one, along the Garden Route, had a eletric blanket of sorts, so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect something like it if the place is open during Winter. But overall, the discomfort was more related to the fact that there was no one there. We were led to book a shuttle because we arrived late, which is fine, except that it costs double the uber and is kind of mandatory because the lady has the key. She was great but she can't carry luggage, so again, it defied expectations. We knew the breakfast was limited, but at the end we just felt we could have paid less in an airbnb

Liebevoll geführtes Guesthouse in toller Lage

Sehr gut gelegenes, hübsches Guesthouse in Gardens
