Brussels and related destinations

Waffles aren't just breakfast here – they're an art form, best enjoyed while admiring La Grand Place's gilded guildhalls that seem almost too ornate to be real. The Manneken Pis statue proves even national monuments can have a sense of humour. Duck into the Musical Instruments Museum where vintage saxophones and strange medieval contraptions await behind an Art Nouveau façade. The Royal Museums of Fine Arts houses Flemish masterpieces that make art history textbooks come alive. Chocolate shops offer free samples with such casual generosity you'll wonder if they've miscalculated their profit margins. After dark, tiny pubs serve hundreds of beer varieties, each in its own specially shaped glass – a ritual bartenders take very seriously indeed.

Novotel Brussels off Grand'Place

Novotel Brussels off Grand'Place

8/10 Good
"The hotel lobby is very pretty and was probably the nicest part of the property. Unfortunately, the rooms felt much older and weren’t nearly as nice as the lobby. What bothered me most was the service. There were three people staying in our room, so when I arrived, I asked for three toothbrushes, a comb, and an extra pillow. The staff member questioned why I needed so many items, which I found very strange. If three guests are staying in the room, of course we may need three toothbrushes. He only gave me one comb, and at that point I didn’t even feel comfortable asking for anything else. I also asked about conditioner and was told that it was only provided to guests who booked suites or higher room categories. The whole experience made the hotel feel unnecessarily stingy with basic amenities. The positives were the location, which is very convenient, and the easily accessible water refill stations on each floor and in the lobby. However, there are several other hotels right next door, so I would rather stay at one of those next time. I personally wouldn’t return."

"Just back from a great stay at this hotel. We arrived early and turned up at the hotel expecting just to drop our bags off as we were way to early to check in but the lovely lady called Elena (not sure of the spelling) on reception checked us in early and gave us a garden facing room. She was very welcoming and helpful indeed. This was fantastic as these rooms are so quiet. We never heard a sound the whole time we were there and the bed was very comfortable too. This was very welcome as we were so busy on tours during the day. The hotel is very clean and our room was cleaned every day throughout our stay. The shower was also good. We did not eat at the hotel so I cannot comment on breakfast. You are not far away from the main areas central station is about 5-10 mins walk away and it is very well located for the pick up points for various bus tours to Luxembourg, Brugge and Amsterdam etc. This was a reason I chose this hotel. You are also about 15 mins walk to the Grand Place area and the Royal Palace. There's a Carrafeur supermarket nearby and also some restaurants and eating places along the street. I would happily stay here again if I were staying in Brussels. It was excellent value for money for the price I paid."
