Catch a wave at Surfrider Beach, where perfect breaks have made this stretch of sand legendary among board riders since the 1950s. The Getty Villa houses ancient treasures in a setting so Mediterranean you'll forget you're in California. Hike through wildflowers in the Santa Monica Mountains, where trails reveal panoramic ocean views worth every drop of sweat. At Paradise Cove, toes-in-the-sand dining elevates the simple fish taco to transcendent experience. Point Dume offers dramatic cliff-top vistas where, between December and May, migrating grey whales pass remarkably close to shore. The Malibu Pier provides both excellent fishing and the perfect sunset selfie backdrop, though locals prefer the less crowded Carbon Beach for their evening constitutionals.

Villa Graziadio Executive Center at Pepperdine University
"Property is secluded and clean, with friendly staff. We had a great stay, only thing missing was a swimming pool or hotub."
Hotel June Malibu
"Had a great 2 night stay! Cute property, nice staff, good check in experience. However were a few hidden fees at the end that came as a surprise, such as expensive self parking on a dirt road that could have been better communicated."
Malibu Beach Inn
"I loved it here. I felt like they could improve on their staff for the beach. They should wash the furniture at the end of every day to make sure it’s clean for the next days people. I also think that they should make sure that they accommodate their hotel guests to sit outside for dinner on the patio and make that a priority not just people that come in for reservations the staff by the beach that helps you set up. Your furniture does not seem real organized."
Calamigos Ranch Resort & Spa
"Perfect mix of nature & high end service / amenities. We had an amazing week end at Calamigos Ranch"
The M Malibu
"I was greeted in the office and it was a quick check-in to get my room key. Staff was friendly. My room was clean. There was a small refrigerator for me to use. I setup my computer on the desk space and was able to work from my room. Plenty of daylight and you could open the windows for a breeze of fresh air. The shades were blackout so you could get a good nights rest. Great shower, spacious bathroom. The ocean view was amazing, as were the adorable hummingbirds that played in the palm trees right outside my balcony. Loved the balcony. I didn’t use the pool but it was very clean and there were plenty of lounge chairs surrounding it to use. Parking was available. Location was walkable to grocer, etc. and to public beach access— so you can see and do plenty without a car."
Malibu Country Inn
"Great location thank you!!"
SA Beach by Stay Awhile Villas
"Beautiful finishes. Very modern and clean. Felt like we were part of the Nobu property. Bathroom was a spa. Nobu 3 buildings over."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Malibu
- Book for the cheapest times: For budget-minded travellers, the months of January, November, and December present an affordable opportunity to visit Malibu when hotel prices may drop to lower prices. With a stay of at least 2 to 3 days, visitors can enjoy great value for money while exploring key landmarks, history, and cultural attractions such as the sea, beach, hiking trails, university, sunsets, scenic views, winery, cafes, surfing and sports. This destination offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, making it ideal for those seeking a memorable experience on a budget.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To find last-minute deals to Malibu on Hotels.com, start by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window section where you may discover discounted hotel stays near your travel dates. Check the Last-Minute Deals section to see if prices have dropped, and consider enabling email alerts or push notifications for flash sales and special offers. Using the Smart Shopping tool available via the app, you're more likely to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you stay informed about any reductions or available rooms for your impromptu getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary depending on factors such as the hotel’s location, star rating, and time of year, so a degree of flexibility with your dates might help you save on your stay in a Malibu hotel. For those seeking unique experiences, boutique hotels may provide a more personalised service and potentially better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your selected dates is higher or lower than average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you find a more attractive rate.
- Consider your location: Hotels near the city centre usually come at a higher price, though with Malibu's excellent public transport links, you might find a more affordable independent hotel further afield that’s still well connected. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
