Good comfort, value and location
We stayed in a condo that featured a bedroom with two single beds and a queen bed in a loft. There were two bathrooms and a full kitchen equipped with everything you needed for basic cooking and dining. Here are a few things we enjoyed. Betty's County Store is the only grocery store in town and it is right around the corner. It's is an IGA with extras and a café but the prices are more reasonable than I expected. This made cooking every day convenient and cost-effective. The condo had plenty of closets and drawers. Our spaces stayed tidy because all our stuff was hidden and organized. The large window gave you a nice view of the Christmas lights in Downtown Helen. The balcony was great for our morning coffee. I have seen reviews where folks said it was dated, but though it may be, it was clean and functional. Others mentioned you could walk to town. I didn't try that but you would probably have to park at the check-in area because the driveway to the condo is very steep and narrow. Google Maps said it was a 15-minute walk. Also, if some of your party has issues with stairs the loft might not be for you. Those units are on the 3rd floor. My mother and the vacationers next door were pretty out of breath. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, and I will book my next Helen visit here. Highly recommended.

Stay Away - Pictures Inaccurate Representation
First, Hotels.com states that the check-in is open daily from 9 - 5, but when we arrived on Sunday, it was closed. By chance, a lady told us the keys were in the guard gate, but it was not intuitive for us to know to look in an empty guard gate. The Alpine Crest Resort is not far, per se, from the main road, but because at night there are no lights to comfortably see your way back, it is not "walkable" to the main road; moreover, there are a lot of hotels right on the main street which, had we known, we would have stayed at instead. Next, we had to drive up a very steep and winding hill to get to the room, which is not how other hotels in the area are situated, as they are on flat ground; in my opinion, this steep hill is very dangerous, especially if the road ices. Then, once inside, THE HOT WATER RAN OUT. As a family of 5, I was able to take a shower the first night. Since the office was closed and we were unaware of a help number that was on the back of the envelope the keys had come in, we did not know to call. We complained in the morning and a mechanic confirmed the water heater worked, but the second night was similar, except we called and were given a key to another room for us to shower there. Then, overall, it was dirty and smelly. The carpet and walls are soiled. The ceiling appears to also have mold. The slides do not work. Do yourself a favor and stay at a hotel on the main road. There is nothing about this place that makes it a "resort."

Pool & gym needs upgraded. Loved the location. First room shown was basement level with narrow walkway with ivy to side. Second was much much better! Floor level. Good value for money if amenities looked like pictures.

Bug in the master bedroom tub and spider webs in the other bedroom window. Some animal was under the stairs leading to our room based on the claw marks. TV reception was bad in the living room. I would have like an email as to guardless shack and key control before arrival.

4/10 Fair

Overall the resort needs some major upkeep. Its to be expected for the area to be dated as far as furniture and all goes, but really needs to be refreshed in general. We were supposed to stay 3 nights, but left after 2. The first condo we stayed in fit our family fine and had everything we needed. The first morning we woke up to at least 50 "potato bugs", little white round roach bugs all over the bathroom floor. We notified the front desk, and they were very kind and apologetic. They moved us to another room in the same building. It was clean and an upgrade from our other condo. The next morning, we found lots of spiders in the showers. Bugs are to be expected in the woods, but we've been to Helen 4 times and never seen so many. Again, the staff is very kind, but this resort definitely needs a lot of TLC. The waterslides were closed, the clubhouse is very lacking, just a pool table. Its close to town with a walking path to get there thru the woods that comes out to a dumster area behind Pauls Resturants. The playground is in very rough shape for the kids. It was sad really. I'm sure in its day it was the place to stay in Helen. Hopefully someday it will be brought back to life.

Comfortable Stay, but need renovations.
So much potential for 5 star status. Needs renovations and some more upkeep. Rugs can be changed completely. But it is in a good location, quiet and clean restrooms. Lots is space for a family. Wish more of the amenities were available. We checked in the middle of the night and I called the manager. She answered and stayed with us on the phone until we arrived. We appreciated that.
