We just returned from a week in Rome, staying at Hotel Modigliani for the week. First of all, there's a lot to like about this hotel.
1) It's in a terrific location, within easy walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, transportation options, numerous area shops and restaurants and many other Rome highlights.
2) The staff, without exception, were wonderful. From the desk staff to the maids to the breakfast and bar crew. All great, all spoke English more or less, but appreciated it when you could speak some Italian. The staff members consistently went out of the way to be friendly and helpful.
3) The place was spotless, room and common areas alike. There's a great lounge and really nice. Many rooms came with a little balcony you could sit out on. In warm weather there's a charming little interior patio where they serve breakfast. The beds were clean and comfortable. There are excellent breakfast/bar areas to relax in, have a meal or a drink.
4) Excellent breakfasts are provided, with lots of variety.
The negatives were few. The biggest one was that the room was pretty small and there's little space to stow your gear. The second biggest negative is that the hotel sits on top of a rather steep hill, so getting home after a day's walking adventure was a bit of a challenge. Finally, the bathroom is pretty small and the shower floor a bit slippery. Other that those, the place really was terrific.
We both had a great stay and would recommend this hotel very highly.
