Alexandra Park is a 24-hectare park that offers walking paths, a soccer field, a cricket pitch, a lake, a bowling green and numerous gardens. The park also hosts many events throughout the year, including the Manchester Caribbean Carnival.

The park was constructed in 1870 with the intent to ‘deter the working men of Manchester from the alehouses on their day off’. Now, the park is used for leisure activities and sports with the cricket square and athletic courts and fields. With so much to see and do, the park is suitable for all types of travelers, including families with children.

Highlights of Alexandra Park

Alexandra Park features prominent lodges at the entrances that were designed by Alfred Darbyshire. You’ll also find a raised walk and a lime walk for pedestrians and horse-drawn carriages. Other nature paths travel in circles around the forested neighborhoods, the cricket pitch and the soccer field. The park has a recreational lake that was made from former marl pits and a sunken bowling green.

The gardens are one of the park’s biggest draws. In the past, Alexandra Park supplied greenery for other parks and government buildings using greenhouses, but it's now home to flower gardens, raised terrace gardens with flower beds and trees and planters.
