8/10 Very good

Not a city girl so this location seemed very loud to me, but I hear that is just NYC. Tiny rooms but clean and cute. Window air conditioner was right next to the bed and constantly cycled on and off all day and night. The hotel location was terrific with lots of great places to eat or grab a coffee.

8/10 Very good

Staying at The Freehand was interesting. I was initially shocked by my tiny dark room with a window that faced the back interior of the hotel. I had to use a flashlight to identify items in my suitcase. That being said, I was grateful that the room was exceptionally quiet and I spent very little time there. The front desk and housekeeping staff was hands down wonderful ... attentive, courteous, and efficient.

6/10 Good

Overall, a mediocre hotel and overpriced for what it offers. Perhaps I was unlucky, but the AC in my room did not work, and the fan provided as a replacement wasn’t functioning properly either. On the positive side, the hotel is well located if you need to stay in that particular part of the city.

This is where I stayed for my very first trip to NYC and overall I was very satisfied. The staff was very nice. They answered any questions that I had. I definitely felt at ease as a solo traveler. It’s an older building. It’s gonna have a few quirks but I think it really has a lot of character. The location is fantastic and I was able to walk a lot of places. Housekeeping was very prompt and brought fresh towels etc daily.
