Perfect!
Wonderful experience! Danny was especially helpful for us. Comfortable room, affordable prices, and a cool rooftop bar for hanging out. The location was also wonderful - tons of good, cheap food places nearby, and we weren’t far from the Shanghai Museum and a metro stop! I would happily stay here again. It’s an unbeatable value.

Location perfect
Great hostel, great location, nice roof top bar. I’d ask for a room looking out the front if staying again. Our room was next to the top floor of a local family’s flat, so was woken early when they were showering etc on the roof. The front desk staff were very helpful. It’s a very short walk to the metro which was great.

A quick one night stay
Overall my stay was nice. The staff were friendly and knew English and gave me an upgrade, which was appreciated. The bed was a bit hard, but if you’re staying for a few nights it should be fine. It’s close to food, so you won’t go hungry. Please take note the ATMs at the PVG airport do not accept foreign cards, so make sure you have cash to change (45RMB fee) or change some ahead of time.

Valued for money
It was a great experience staying in the Phoenix Hostel. $14 for one night in a shared room, but you will get pretty helpful service, walking distance toward local restaurants and most places of interest, and clean bathrooms and interesting roommates. Hope I can stay here too when I come back to Shanghai in the mid of July.

Nice hostel and fun activities
The rooms were nice and good location near People's square where the metro is convenient to airports, buses and trains. The hostel has a nice rooftop bar. They arrange activities which I would recommend; I went on a bicycle tour and it was good fun! An improvement point would be to clean the rooms more carefully as there was quite a bit of dust at the bedside.

Good overall budget hotel with nice rooftop bar
The hotel is a really nice and clean, the staff at the front desk was really nice and helpful about what's around the area when we were hungry late at night and heading out the next morning about where to head. There's lots of good local food very close and it's not to far from the walking street either, nice budget hotel. The rooftop bar looked really nice but it was chilly the day we were there so we didn't want to sit outside but I would of loved to in better weather. My only 2 little complains are the bathroom setup is a little different, maybe it's me being from the us but it's just a glass door going to the bathroom so no privacy in the room going to the bathroom, it's half frosted glass so can't see much but a little different but not to big a deal. Also like I read on some other reviews the bed was pretty hard but for one night on a layover it was a good hotel and I'd go there again if I did another layover.

Decent stay
Really nice helpful staff. Conditions of the room could be improved though (8 bed dorm's washroom was dirty and kind of gross). Hostel well located to get to Pudong airport by Bus Line 5 (board/disembark on Yan'an Rd between Guangxi and Yunnan Rds). The hostel was slightly awkward in the sense that there was a restaurant that was closed at times so you'd have to walk through the closed dining area to get to the elevator to get to your room. Otherwise, decent stay.
