We heard from others that they did only get their booked room class after complaining. Same happened to us, so I assume it’s a regular move. After complaining, we got the correct room that fit the picture description. Receptionist was showing off her attitude as if we asked for as free upgrade.
On an island you have to accept some differences to the city, like insects and smaller reptiles. But in the room, there were clear and non-hygienic trails left by lizards, which were on the outside walls in high numbers, and the roof is build with enough openings for them to get inside.
There is one staff who does a really good job. His name is Jesús (blanking on the last name, sorry). I think he did everything in his power to make it a good stay.
Everything apart from him was pretty bad. Food was bad. The fries, no exaggeration, looked as if you went to the frozen food section of your local supermarket market and left em in the oven for 20 instead of 40 minutes. Not eatable.
We had booked three nights. Cut our losses after one night and went back to Cartagena.
We should have understood beforehand that going to Fenix island is a mistake. The communication was difficult, not responsive. We asked where the transfer from Cartagena takes off. They will only share transfer info if we pay the full price upfront through a link that they sent via Whatsapp. Weird, so we asked to pay at the hotel, no answer…so we asked our previous hotel to call them.
