Silver Ridge was exactly as it was on the website. It’s in a stunning area and was exactly what we wanted - nice and relaxing. The spring water is nice and clean but grab some bottles of water from the IGA in Sheffield for your tea and coffee. John was a great host - keen for a longer stay.

Okay for a couple of nights. About 50 minute drive from Cradle Mountain on some challenging roads. No dishwasher but nice indoor pool. Laundry facilities but only the one washing machine for the 9 chalets on the site.

Stayed for a week and it was absolutely spectacular! Just beautiful to stay in, so peaceful and quiet, and with stunning Mt. Roland views just about anywhere. We saw the echidnas, possum, platypus, and all the farm animals. Then there were glow worms and the spiders in the cave - an amazing experience. This is an excellent place to stay for anybody enjoying the countryside. We will return. John was a very welcoming, friendly host!

Spacious cottage, fresh air and great view of Mt Roland. The place is about 45 minutes drive to cradle mountain and 10 mins drive into Sheffield town. We enjoyed our stay there.

John was very pleasant and informative on check-in. No bike hire here. Amazing views and stunning scenery from our cabin. Cabin was basic but cosy. Needs a large kitchen knife. Lights in bathroom may need attention. Disappointed that we didn’t get any housekeeping or change of towels/tea towels for the four nights that we were there. Property was well positioned for us. We drove to Latrobe and hired bikes and cycled to Devonport. Drove to Lake Barrington and then up to the Arboretum. Drove to Cradle Mtn area and did a few hikes. All these were easily reached and doable day trips. Having Sheffield close by, was handy for supplies or coffee.

Beautiful view of the nearby mountain. Interesting short trail through the ravine to an old mine behind the large field. (Saw an echidna, a pademelon and many birds.)
The ducks and native hens and other inhabitants of the pond and field provided endless entertainment. At dusk, dozens of small marsupials came out for us to watch.
Nearby was a much longer trail up the mountain. We did not go all the way up, but spent quite a while walking there.
Cradle Mountain was over the ridge, an "interesting" drive about 50 minutes (driving slowly) away, and was fantastic, even the white-lipped whip snake and especially the wombats.
Food and gas were about 20 minutes away, in Sheffield, and almost all restaurants were closed at dinner time. One night we went all the way to Devonport where we found an excellent Chinese restaurant, China Garden.

The resort is in an amazing location, with Mount Roland looming over it - very dramatic. It is convenient to Cradle Mountain, about an hour away by road, and also only about 15 minutes from Sheffield, with its artistic delights (murals, mosaics etc). The resort's owner John could not have been more considerate and helpful. We were only there 2 days/nights but loved it.

Excellent location right at foot of mt. Ronald. We stayed for two night but felt we should planned a couple of more nights here. John was excellent host, guided with details on what to visit. The night tour in the property and the silver mines in the property are highlights for the children. Great place to stay !!!

The positives were a clean comfortable bed and the bathroom was renovated to a good standard. The rest of the cottage and the whole site was incredibly tired and appeared sadly neglected. There were dead flies on the window sills and a lot of grit. Dishes had not been washed properly by previous guests. You could not drink the water, lucky we had enough bottled water to get by.

The setting is gorgeous and the swimming pool is beautiful—perfect temperature. We walked to the abandoned silver mine on the property and succeeded in seeing glow worms. It’s a 30 minute drive to the cradle mountain visitor center. The cabins have seen better days and have ugly plastic covering the tops of tables and dressers. Ours did not have a full kitchen, which was not clear from the hotel.com ad. There are no restaurants nearby so we had planned to cook our own meals, but that’s hard with just a microwave and a communal grill.

We were travelling with my mother in law who I think was expecting a 5* hotel and felt a bit underwhelmed,As we drove up from Sheffield.
But She my wife and my kids absolutely loved it. The views are amazing, the air is amazing the accomodation had everything we needed and the property and staff were amazing. Perfect location for visiting Sheffield Cradle mountain and Tazmazia was in the next valley across. Lots of friendly animals on the property, An abandoned silver mine with glow worms was a trek / adventure for my boys one day and then after coming back they jumped in the warm indoor pool.
And suggest you have a telstra sim with you, nothing else works as well in this part of tassie.

Highly recommend for families wanting to explore the Cradle mountain National park and midland areas of Tasmania.
50 min drive to cradle mountain visitor centre. 15mins from Sheffield. Cabins are very comfortable with stove microwave, fridge, toaster.
Retreat has an indoor heated pool great for relaxing after a long days walk to travel.
Laundry facilities- 1 x washing machine (free to use) and industrial dryer (about $5-6 per load to dry. )
Kids loved exploring the farm.
Water is spring water - Uv sanitised and filtered - we picked up some drinking water from Sheffield IGA in 3ltr containers to be sure.
