Kyoto and related destinations

Between ancient temples and modern manga museums, Kyoto reveals itself through contrasts. Wander through vermillion gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine, where thousands of torii create tunnels of orange against green mountainside. Geisha hurry through narrow Gion streets at dusk, their white-painted faces glimpsed briefly before disappearing into exclusive teahouses. The golden pavilion of Kinkaku-ji appears to float on its reflecting pond, somehow more impressive than any photograph suggests. Nishiki Market offers bizarre delicacies and perfect ceramics in equal measure. Don't miss Arashiyama's bamboo grove, where morning light filters through impossibly tall stalks creating a green cathedral effect that explains why the Japanese find spirituality in nature.

Hotel Granvia Kyoto

Hotel Granvia Kyoto

10/10 Excellent
"Hotel Granvia Kyoto is a very nice, clean, and exceptionally well-positioned hotel. The location is excellent, with plenty of food, entertainment, and shopping nearby. The amenities felt somewhat lacking from a Western perspective. Having to pay an additional fee to use the gym, for example, seems unusual compared with typical U.S. hotel standards. The biggest disappointment was the condition of the corridors, which were not particularly clean and had a noticeable cigarette smell. That detracted from an otherwise very pleasant stay. Admittedly, some of these impressions may reflect differences between Japanese and U.S. hotel standards. Staff was excellent and very accomodating"

10/10 Excellent
"The location can not be beat. Opposite Nishiki market and a walk away from shopping, temples and shrines. Rooms are tiny. There were 3 of us. The beds are close together and there is minimal extra space. The sink, toilet and shower are all separate which was great because someone could shower while someone else could brush their teeth etc. the sink was in the room. Free small cup of sake at night. Free coffee/hot chocolate. Laundry - 4 machines. Washer/dryer combo. Takes 2 hours a load. Drying takes extra time if you are adding jeans etc. this was busy. Had to go stake out machines. We had a lovely stay. Room was small but we were not in it all day except for sleeping."

For those keen on exploring the city's rich landmarks, history, and culture — including temples, gardens, monuments, historical sites and sightseeing tours — a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is ideal. This period offers great value for money while allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the city's cultural heritage and historical treasures.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover enticing last-minute deals to Kyoto, begin by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may find attractive discounts on hotels as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications from Hotels.com to stay informed about flash sales and exclusive last-minute promotions, which could help you save. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you’re well-informed. You'll be notified if rooms become available or prices drop, making it easier to secure your last-minute getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate due to various factors, including the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, having some flexibility with your travel dates may assist you in finding a more favourable rate for your stay in a Kyoto hotel. If you’re seeking something distinctive, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and may offer better value. When you make a reservation through Hotels.com, we’ll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could potentially offer more affordable options.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels located near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Kyoto's superb public transport system, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
