Land Based Cruise Ship
We tend to use hotels primarily as a base camp for driving off and exploring. The location of the hotel is well suited for those who want to venture out on their own (plenty of free parking), however there are an abundance of tours easily booked for guests who prefer not to drive. The resort is very family friendly with plenty of amenities, catering well to those who simply want to soak up the sun at the pool or beach. Add to it the “all inclusive” proposition with entertainment , nightclubs, kid’s activities, and a very engaged and committed staff, RIU has essentially taken the cruise ship business model and applied it to a land based hotel.

Room was very dated and had poor air circulation. The bathroom ( shower area) was dark with a daily smell of sewer. The alcohol selection in the room and bar are below basic selections. The food was sub par at best. However, the property next door, Riu Palace appear to be more modern and of better quality.

RIU Guanacaste is located in a beautifully secluded area. The outside of the hotel looks amazing. Staff was amazing, friendly, made the stay a little bit more pleasant. The rooms were severely outdated, beds a little stiff, no room service in the hotel, and the food was mediocre at best. The best restaurant on the property was the Asian cuisine restaurant. There was no service in the area of the hotel but the Wi-Fi was good. If I visited RIU again it would be the more updated RIU Palace. Overall stay was okay.
