Palais Sebban was the perfect retreat from the colourful madness of Marrakech market square. Just 5 to 10 minutes walk away from the main square down a tiny alleyway we were pleased that we had booked a taxi from the airport via the hotel. This all went as clockwork, and our taxi was met by a member of the hotel staff. The riad is beautiful inside and the staff are very polite and nice. There is a cosy bar, and an atmospheric courtyard for dining. The food was good, although small portions and quite expensive. Breakfast was perfectly fine, with some nice fresh fruit, and a couple of hot options, but nothing spectacular. I would definitely be very happy to stay at this hotel again. It really is a beautiful building with a nice roof terrace for the evening sun. We stayed in early January and Marrakech is very cold early morning and late evening, so pack some warm clothes. The pool looked beautiful, but it was freezing.

The hotel is in the Medina, or the old part of the city. The streets are dirty, crowded, and in the case of Palais Sebban, you walk down a long, winding (dirty/trashy) alley to get to the hotel. This seems typical of many of the buildings in the Medina. Once inside, the hotel is somewhat charming. But it looks and feels worn - from dirty, torn seat cushions, to old, worn tables in the open air, courtyard restaurant. There were three of us - colleagues, who had become good friends over the years - and we had booked a suite, thinking it would be fun to share the same quarters. After waiting alone in a courtyard for about an hour, we were shown to our “suite.” It was actually one room - combination living and sleeping area. The couch in the living area was actually a twin bed, another twin bed was in an alcove and the queen bed was in the main sleeping area. The main door had openings under and around it easily large enough for furry creatures to get through. However, Marrakech is the city of cats and I suspect there are not many mice, rats or squirrels that survive there. So that was ok. The bathroom felt dirty - and the shower looked filthy. Despite all of this, the hotel is ok as long as you have the right expectations. But for what we paid (not really a bargain), we expected better. If this doesn’t sound like your kind of place, the newer part of the city (outside of the Medina) looks much cleaner, modern and more tourist-friendly.

The riad was unbelievably beautiful. A quiet little hideaway just a few minutes away from the busy markets.

Palais sebban is a lovely place to stay . The atmosphere, pool, flower creepers over hanging from the terrace and birds are wonderful . The staff are excellent, friendly, polite and so hard working . Dominque is a charming, friendly and very helpful manager . The little bar is cosy . The breakfasts were amazing for me being vegetarian with lots of lovely fresgh fruit, juices, coffee, yoghurts, breads, salads, tarts etc We had a small standard room and would love to afford the larger rooms but we had a choice and choose ours because of the large windows, light and seeing the sky and birds which is important to me . The terrace is a lovely place to chill in the sun. There is live tradiional music sometimes for outside dining . It is a relaxing ,beautiful, traditional , more spaious than many riads , friendly place to enjoy Marrakech from and we like that part of the medina - so good location. Thank you for our lovely break to refresh and rejuvenate .

Hotel is great overall, it's got all the amenities and delicious food. I think we must have payed the cheapest rate tho, because our room felt like an afterthought. It was the Meknes room, located in the main hallway of the hotel sandwiched between reception and the kitchen, so it was very noisy and didn't feel very private. The lighting and layout of the room could use some updating too. We're pretty sure we saw a mouse a run through our room a couple of times but the good news is they have a few cats on patrol. But other than the actual room, the hotel is amazing. The architecture and attention to detail everywhere will blow you away and their rooftop patio can't be beat. Excellent views of the main Mosque and all of the city and Atlas Mountains. The location is pretty handy too, it's only a 2 minute walk from a main road. And within 10 minutes of a lot of great sights.
