8/10 Very good

Magical resort, brutal extra charges
Suite, private pool, beach, main pool all absolutely incredible. Snorkeling wonderful extra surprise - lots of big fish and good coral. Service good but not perfect, considering it's well over $1000 a night on the room. On arrival, the welcome card was addressed to someone else. One day we had no water, one day no turndown. Food is good but not wow - focus on honeymoon-esque things like steak and lobster, not local produce. In the end the relentless monetization left a sour note. E.g. Main course in restaurant is $60, side $11, then tax and tip. Screwtop wine starts at $75. Cheeseburger is $30 plus tax, tip, and $18 room service fee. Late checkout in an empty resort is $300. The rooms and resort overall are absolutely magical, but this is not a place for people who even look at the bill before signing it...

Peter was the star of the staff show but all were very pleasant and helpful. Amazing views and you can either do nothing all day on the beach or fill every day with activities. Got in a drift dive and a night dive which was awesome. Seems nicer than other resorts in the area and in a better location. Decided not to go with all inclusive and blew past what we would have spent with all inclusive so good to keep in mind. Great experience all around. Pro tip: if you stay in sugar mill or beach-side rooms you can walk anywhere and don’t need a shuttle.

10/10 Exceptional

When we arrived we were taken to a room far from the beach and in order to be close to the gym, restaurants and the beach we needed to take a shuttle everyday. I was very disappointed; however, one of the managers on the team, Darling, understood our concern and moved us to one of the beachfront bunglows, which completely turned around our experience at the resort. FIVE STAR for EVERYTHING!

We couldn’t be more thankful to Sugar Beach and the incredible staff for making our honeymoon so incredibly perfect! We were upgraded to the most amazing accommodations upon arrival and the staff welcomed us with champagne. The hospitality was beyond amazing and we cannot say enough great things about the staff! We are a couple in 20’s and planned our honeymoon ourselves. We knew we wanted the relaxed, tranquil, adventurous and scenic vibes of the Pitons and rainforest and not the vibes of Sandals or cruise ship port in Castries. We researched many resorts and found it very difficult to decide between Anse Chastanet, Ladera, Stonefield and Sugar Beach. But we could not have been more happy about our decision (although St. Lucia is an incredible beautiful island with down to earth people and all the resorts in the Soufriere area look like heaven). Sugar Beach stood out because it is an absolutely gorgeous resort located in a magnificent setting between Gros Piton and Petit Piton. It has the best of both worlds, with a beautiful beach, resort pool, and each room has a plunge pool. There is no sacrificing one or the other. We did the waterfall and sulphur spring mudbaths, ziplining, sunset cruise, and hiked Gros Piton. All the activities are located conveniently at or across the street from the resort.

Wonderful stay at this resort. The location is the absolute best on the island and it is near all the activities and snorkeling. Highly recommend this resort versus the other up north. Beautiful, well maintained, incredible food and service.

4/10 Fair

Overall I was disappointed in my stay. We rented a 2 bedroom oceanview villa. First, we arrived 15 minutes early. Check in 3pm we arrived at 245pm, and heard excuses 10x about us being early. Ive been to hotels way earlier and never heard a complaint (even if room wasn't ready). They kept that same attitude throughout the stay. It was as if we were not welcome. Anytime we needed anything it was a sigh and poor effort to complete the ask. We had a private butler for the villa who was better than any of the other employees. He helped us a good bit. Outside of him the service was 1/10. Food was Very disappointing. It was Average all inclusive food at a fine dining price. They convinced us to go to the big bbq buffet on the beach which was $115 / person for pizza and chicken bones + drinks additional of course. IF food was great then not a problem. Room service was repetitive and below average. We were tired of food and left after 3 days. Beach is beautiful but very rocky. Not what many expect in Caribbean. But still no complaints here. Pool is nice too. Food at beach is ok, but same menu as dinner basically so very repetitive. The room itself was nice, although spent first night in wrong room. We booked 2 bedroom Villa (2 king beds) we arrived to twin beds. Ended up upgrading us for final 2 nights to a very nice 3 bedroom villa. But for price of 2k / night even upgrade was overpriced. Overall would say experience felt like any regular all inclusive in Cancun
