10/10 Exceptional

The best themed hotel we’ve ever stayed at.
This hotel is the place you want to stay at. It is outside of Reykjavik by 12 min, by taxi 20 min by public bus. The hotel is wonderfully themed with a great restaurant next to it. The night manager, Karolina at the front desk is absolutely lovely person. When we arrived at 2am Karolina warned us about getting restaurant reservations for Dec 31st & Jan 1st in the city because, as we found out, Icelandic people take there national holiday very seriously closing absolutely everything including the public busses by 2pm. We tried getting a restaurant reservation but to no avail. The hotel room has a fridge & the grocery stores were going to be open. Every night we saw her at the desk & had long conversations with her. She’s was an absolute delight & deserves a raise. (Karolina the night desk person for hotel Viking and another part of the hotel sister setting.) I swear another hotel will snatch her up, because she’s that delightful. Each room has a type of sauna. Our view was great of the harbor. The breakfast was excellent as well to the hotel. You need to take photos of everything including the cave section of the breakfast area. This hotel was perfectly themed & I would suggest this hotel to everyone. Only one change I would do is having the restaurant as a buffet style during national holidays, depending on how many guest you will be staying. We don’t realize what will or will not be open in this country. Thank you again, do stay here.

Nice place with good location
Understanding staff when our flight got delayed. Very kind and welcomeing. Rooms are spotless. Only complaint is that the pillow cases and bed cover were very rough. I put a tee shirt on the pillow and it was ok after that. I am very sensitive to certian fabrics so this probably was a me thing and not the hotel. Good location and the restaurant had great food and great breakfast.

Triple Room
We had a triple room and it was pretty spacious. As others have said, this is not a luxury hotel, but it was comfortable with a decent breakfast buffet. Also in a cute little town with several food options.

Excellent hotel and Viking restaurant. Staff were so kind, friendly and helpful. Room was clean and beds very comfortable. Breakfast was nice and had lots of variety. Dinner at the restaurant was enjoyable too. Bit of a trek from Reykjavik, but public transportation was easy and cheap. Pallett coffee shop near by was also worth noting. Very nice. NB: Cabs very expensive if you do an Aurora tour and no public transit (ends before midnight).

Fun themed hotel for our last night in Iceland. Room was very small as hotel is older. We had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent. There was several large groups of kids staying and eating when we arrived yet we still received excellent service in the restaurant. Complementary breakfast was ok compared to other hotels. Only thing to improve was the bed. Very uncomfortable and was just 2” foam over the mattress base on 2 twins with wood frames pushed together for a king. The wood frames made for a hard lump in the middle. Will note we had 2 twins for king bed at 4 other hotels but with regular mattress it wasn’t an issue.

6/10 Good

The staff at the front desk upon arrival were not very welcoming, just doing their job. We arrived early and had to wait for our check in, after a couple of ours we asked and were able to check in to our room. Not much in the area other than a small mall and grocery store. It is advertised as a Viking Village so I should have checked it out more. Nothing but the hotel and nothing to do. You would only stay here if you had a car. Stayed there for 4 days and they never came once to empty the garbage or change towels, they say it is for the environment and if you want this service to put the card on your door. We did at 9am and by 2:30pm they still did not come. I gave up and we brought them the garbage. There is a restaurant that is Viking Style, the first night was not that impressive, but on our last night the restaurant was more lively and we had a good server, that brought us fresh bread and helped my daughter out with her gluten allergies. They offer you a complimentary breakfast, which was ok, but the coffee cups were the size of salt shakers and you had to refill them very often to get the same amount as a cup of coffee. Overall I would say this is a place for you to stop over on your travels if you are looking for an affordable hotel. Not a place to stay for multiple days.

Staff was helpful. Lobby had nice brochures for any tourists interested in tours. Room was nice and cozy with a view of the city. Convenient location as it was across a delicious restaurant with great food and atmosphere! Walked around the area and was a nice and safe neighborhood.

6/10 Good

The theme was awesome and attention to details fantastic. The bedroom itself was small. There were no night stands, and no room to get off the bed. The bathtub is very high and can be difficult to access. If you are taking a shower, no matter how you are placing the curtain, water will over flow all over the bathroom’s floor.

6/10 Good

The only thing Viking was the first floor and lobby, but the rooms were not. They were a basic standard studio room that were extremely plain and not decorated. The room was hot and since it’s next to main road, pretty noisy after opening windows. Parking is a whole ordeal because there’s constructions and not enough spots to park. Staff were nice but I probably would not stay again.
