Wollongong city centre


If you want to be in the middle of things, Wollongong's centre is the place to stay. Business is concentrated in the C.B.D. - or "Central Business District" - and here you’ll have shopping and dining at Wollongong Central and Crown Street on your doorstep. A morning swim at North Beach, or an evening stroll on the harbor, are steps away. You can get around town fast on the Free Gong Shuttle bus.


The city centre offers accommodation from functional motels to upscale hotels with ocean-view balconies. You’ll find fully serviced apartments for a longer stay. If you’re on a budget and want to be close to the action, there are backpacker hostels.

North Wollongong


North Wollongong is the place to stay if you want to make the most of the unspoiled natural beauty north of town. You’ll have a choice of uncrowded beaches outside your door, and be in the midst of the spectacular scenery of the Illawarra Escarpment. A train line puts both Wollongong and Sydney within easy reach.


If you’re on a budget you’ll find lots of accommodation in North Wollongong, including campgrounds with cabins right behind the beach, and cozy bed-and-breakfasts nestled between the mountains and the sea.

South Wollongong


In South Wollongong you’ll be close to the rolling surf and yellow sands of Port Kembla and Windang beaches. Fishing, windsurfing, and swimming in the calm waters of Lake Illawarra are nearby, and golfers have the Wollongong and Port Kembla courses on the doorstep. The area has a country feel, but the amenities of the city are easily reachable.


South Wollongong offers a choice of functional yet comfortable motels and cozy bed-and-breakfasts, as well as a campground with cabins between the waters of Windang Beach and Lake Illawarra.

South Coast


If you’re looking for a seaside vacation with an array of beaches and the lush hinterland within close reach, the South Coast is ideal. The picturesque township of Kiama offers a choice of places eat and the famous Kiama Blowhole, with the conveniences of Wollongong only a 30-minute drive away.
