Dallas Shopping Guide – where and what to shop and buy

Find a place to stay

Dallasites love to shop, and, boy, do they take it seriously. They know their leather goods better than anyone, and their super-malls put others to shame. Dallas craftsmanship doesn’t begin and end with leather – there are markets and collectives displaying every type of art, craft and textile creation. The malls, meanwhile, tout the biggest high street and designer brands. If you want to shop, you are most definitely in the right city.
West Village

This chic shopping village is a carefully curated selection of independent boutiques and top fashion brands. Set among leafy boulevards and festively illuminated at night, it feels like a small town in its own right. Trendy restaurants with outdoor patios make the ideal lunchtime spots under the Texan sun. When your feet are tired and you’re laden down with bags, you can hop on the free McKinney Avenue trolley, which trundles around West Village and beyond. Better still, treat yourself to a post-shopping massage at a sleek spa.

Bishop Arts

Creativity is the lifeblood of the eclectic Bishop Arts district. It’s a quirky collection of vintage boutiques, antiques shops, and artists’ co-operatives, so if you’re looking for a one-off find, this is the place to come and wander. The Artisan’s Collective is an Aladdin’s Cave of a showroom, featuring works by over 150 artisans. There’s everything from bizarre sculpture to beautiful paintings. There are many other creative hotspots to amble through, as well as shops selling the work of independent fashion designers and jewelry makers.

Galleria Dallas

At the northern city limits, just off the Lyndon B Johnson Freeway, Galleria Dallas is a metropolis of high-end, big-brand fashion. Beneath the palatial, curved glass roof, designer stores dazzle with glamorous products and eye-watering prices. If you don’t want to give your credit card a beating, there are plenty of high street brands too. At the center of it all is a stunning indoor ice rink, which provides a surreal, sparkling sight alongside the shopfronts. If you have any energy left after your shopping spree, why not pull on some skates and go for a spin?

Shopping Tips

If you’re visiting the Farmers’ Market, aim to get there quick – it opens early every morning, and the best produce soon disappears. Take a cool bag along to gather goodies for a picnic lunch. When it comes to cowboy gear, the quality and price of cowboy boots vary wildly, so ask shop staff about boot fit and customization options. If you’re watching your spending, Bishop Arts is a good place to wander as it's fun just browsing the quirky, unique wares.
