"The hotel was clean and lovely . We arrived on bank holiday Sunday . The reception staff looked like they didn’t want to be there . The bar and restaurant was closed. They said breakfast was at 7am … it didn’t open till after 8am , the reviews say it was gluten free and vegan friendly , but there was no milk alternative at breakfast. Shame as the hotel is on an excellent location for the city."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Chester

  1. Book for the cheapest times: Chester is an affordable destination on a budget, especially during January, February, and December, when hotel prices may drop to lower prices. With its rich history and cultural landmarks, such as monuments and the river, visitors can enjoy great value for money. For those interested in exploring the city's heritage and cultural attractions like the spa and bar, a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is ideal for uncovering the charm of Chester.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To find last-minute deals to Chester, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals section on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted hotel rates close to your travel date. Enabling email alerts or push notifications from Hotels.com will help you stay informed about flash sales and special last-minute promotions, so you're more likely to see opportunities for savings. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring that if rooms become available or prices drop, you'll be among the first to know for your last-minute getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates may help you find a better deal on your stay in a hotel in Chester. If you're seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and occasionally better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we'll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could offer more affordable options.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but with Chester's superb public transport links, you might discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less bustling neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
