When checking-in, I asked if we could pay to include breakfast and when I asked if there was anything vegetarian available, the reception staff member literally laughed at his colleague before informing me that was not an option. Later, we decided to go for a swim and because it was stipulated that we not use the bath towels for swimming, we asked at reception if they had any towels we could use at the lake; they used Google Translate to convey that this service was not available “yet” (?) and then had a discussion in Japanese concluding in the confirmation that they couldn’t help us. We went and had a swim without anything to dry ourselves with, wishing we could walk through reception dripping wet to prove a point. They had a pool, but it was empty - at least the little water that WAS in it was put to good use by a large frog that lived there. Near the blocked-off small pier and beach outside the hotel, there were several rotting dead fish. There was a general ‘Hotel California’ vibe about the place and we got the sense that it was all a little bit sub-standard and lacked the sense of professionalism one would expect for the cost. The area itself is beautiful and the hotel has so much unrealised potential as a beautiful resort but it was definitely not at the time we visited in summer of 2024. Some of the staff seemed nice enough but the rude, unhelpful ones left a bad taste in the mouth. What a shame.

Place is outdated and could use a touch up. Although staff is great, location is good and price is reasonable. Breakfast also had lots of options.

abusing their monopoly on location
The room is very nice. The service is so so. areas other then the room itself is old and dirty. The bathroom is also old style half size (sit-only) no beach towels provided, breakfast is meh too. But the location is so perfect they will still get all the customers they want

Lake Biwa
We stayed at what must be the off-season, the hotel was fairly empty. The hotel is a little tired, but the staff did there best to make our stay enjoyable. Absolutely a spectacular view of the lake. The hotel is right on the beach.

On the beach
Went in late fall so no beach experience. But hotel was on the beach. Nothing at all to do in the small village, but remember, we were there off-season. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Bicycle rentals at hotel. Restaurant was not the best and a little over priced, but we had no choice as all the restaurants in town were not open off-season. Nice gift ship. During the summer months this could be a very nice accommodation.

Great comfortable cabins with a large window facing the Lake. As we got there the day after the typhoon when it's still rainy, we did not have enjoy the Lake as much. The Hotel is a bit off the way but once you get there, they have friendly staff to greet you and they actually have staff who could communicate in English!
