Our entire trip to Nicaragua was wonderful. We stayed at Pelican Eyes for 1 week, in a regular room. It was spacious, clean and comfortable. It afforded stunning views of the harbor and the town below. The food in the restaurant was very good, and reasonable priced by North American standards. The staff was friendly, and always ready to be helpful. Most had difficulty in speaking English, but between their limited capabilities and ours in Spanish, and with gestures, communications were good. Word of caution: there are no elevators, and the hotel is built in a mountain side. We had the second room from the reception area, and we had to climb 50 steps to our room. There were 240 steps to the uppermost rooms. Those steps are not adequately lit at night, so some caution should be exercised. The hotel is conveniently located, within walking distance of most anything in San Juan del Sur. We would return to this hotel if we were to come back to San Juan. Photos are view from our room, both daytime and sunset.
