Charming, comfortable but noisy!!
This hotel was a lovely property and had all the Victorian esthetic and historic charm we had hoped for. Its central location made exploring Downtown Durango on foot easy. But it would have been nice to know that the trains at the station next door started running (and blowing their whistles every few minutes) at 7 am. No sleeping in at the General Palmer!

"Historic" hotel that needs repair. There is a difference between historic and rumage sale. The line get blurred here. All in all pretty worn.

Cozy and Close In
The General Palmer is a small hotel on Main St in Durango. It was built in 1898, so the old building has some creeks and groans. The old elevator was a challenge, but manageable. Our room did not have a balcony, but there was a large deck accessable ftom the hallway. We were oriented so we could see the Durango- Silverton trains leave in the AM and return in the PM. If you're a late sleeper, request tge opposite side of the hotel. All the staff was friendly and informative. The complimentary breakfast was good. As you would expect, it was not exceptional but tasty and hot. We enjoyed being on Main St and quick access to the shops and restaurants.

The front desk staff was not friendly and disengaged. The breakfast on Saturday was inedible. Sunday was better.
Location was good. And it was a lovely, old hotel. Not really worth the cost, in my opinion.
