The Jersey Arms

Friendly reception but room suite we stayed in desperately needs a lick of paint and carpet replacing

A stay of 2 halves

A tale of2 halves, first night the room we stayed in was not great, see photos. Second night we were moved to another room which was so much better. Staff were so helpful, couldn’t fault them. I agree both with the 1 star and 5 star reviews that I’ve seen, it’s all dependent on the room you are in. Make sure you don’t pick a standard room! Saying all that I would stay again, it’s not far from Bicester village and there are some lovely pubs nearby. Breakfast is basic, but ok, just pastries, toast and yoghurt

OK for a lay over but don’t expect much

Guy on reception friendly. Car park is across from a very busy road. You take your life in your hands! Building quaint but very run down. Continual breakfast was probably the poorest fare I have ever been offered. Traffic very noisy, no air con so don’t stay in hot weather.

Disappointed that the pub part of the hotel is closed, but advised as open. Very run down such a shame as it could be a beautiful place. Stair way to the room was very smelly. The room was ok but could have been looked after a little more. Bathroom not the cleanest.

Very kind and accommodating staff. An excellent one-night stop on our journey. Incredibly beautiful dining room and very comfortable bar area perfect for some rest and relaxation after a red-eye flight.

Not the best but not the worst I have stopped at, needs tidying up and the bar and restaurant to be open.

Lovely 17th Century Inn, Great Rooms, and Staff.

Our second stay at this lovely 17th Century Inn. Full of character and charm. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Good facilities, very good WiFi. It's a very quirky and quant place. Great Value. We have already booked to return.

10/10 Exceptional

Lovely room, comfy bed and lovely staff. The pub is no longer open so no food or drink available. Communal areas a bit tired, but lovely dining room for continental breakfast. I took a picnic that I had in the lovely courtyard at I read from reviews the pub part is shut. Very handy for motorways and Bicester Shopping Village.
Susan, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Room was good and comfy, only bad point id say would be that i was in a outside room, and the windows where very old and thin so was very noisy
Daniel, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

This hotel could be beautiful but sadly the decor was old and dated the toilet was dirty the shower didn't have hot water the taps were loose. The whole room was filthy. They told us there was a free English breakfast...it consists of Weetabix or toast I paid £111 for one night. Was totally ripped off there are much nicer hotels in the area

OK for a stopover

OK for our one-night stopover. The room was clean, adequate and comfortable but in need of a bit of TLC. We had to ask for an extra light as it was quite dim! The TV remote was missing. The one member of staff we saw was helpful and friendly, but seemed rushed off his feet.
Paul, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Avoid - mould and stained towels

After waiting for 20 minutes for somebody to turn up and check me in, I was shown into a room that had mould and stained towels. The room also stank of smoke. I didn't even stay, immediately left and went to another hotel.

Looked lovely but not a comfortable stay I’m afraid. Mold in the bathroom with hairs everywhere and the carpet on entry to the room, stained and dirty. Bad TV signal but not sure nothing could be done about that. Unfortunately I won’t be staying there again.

8/10 Very good

We were welcomed by the wonderful, cheerful owners. The entry and reception area is humble, but I felt the staff went out of their way to make us happy The room was clean and the king size bed was the best you can find. Because the building is old and somewhat repurposed, there are unique details to make the space more accessible. The room we occupied, #5, had 3 steps up from the hallway into the very large room. There were 2 steps down into the bathroom which had an extra long tub with a shower at one end. Everything worked and the hot water came quickly. The breakfast was served in a lounge that belongs in a manor house.

2/10 Poor

Unpleasant venue. Not worth the money.
Chris, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

Good intentions. Lack of investment resources! First impressions: (Superior Double) Having visited many years ago (under different ownership) I was disappointed to see the buildings & surroundings had deteriorated, lacking maintenance. The room was reasonably clean & quiet, with adequate bathroom facilities & plentiful, instant hot water. The room was well facilitated with fan, ironing board, hair dryer, lighting, furnishings etc., but the fridge was not functioning & the weather & room were hot. Thankfully, we carry our own mobile mini fridge & were able to use this in the room. The room smelled strongly of body odour, which we tried to dissipate by opening windows, using the room fan & our own freshener sprays. We rely heavily on WiFi access. Despite being specified, we could not get a connection in the room. The password repeatedly failed, although the QR code worked, but gave very poor intermittent access. Poor, local signal strength provided no mobile data. The TV was problematic, and the lack of WiFi access as a substitute, exacerbated the problem. The one member of staff we encountered was very polite and helpful to a couple of special requests. Despite many years of using hotels, we had always specified "Full English breakfast" and never stayed where only continental breakfast was available, but we were pleased with what was on offer (except for lack of the traditional English marmalade in the jam selection) and we left well sated.

Poor - shower wasn't working

The shower wasn't working - so I had to use the taps on the bath and splash water over myself. Shocking. Wasn't offered another room.
Orkid, 3-night trip

4/10 Fair

tough nights sleep

the hotel had single glazing which opened on to a very main road, we were room 17 (I can't speak for the otherside of the hotel - it was unbelievably loud traffic throughout the night, 18 wheelers revving past and motorbike gangs. Also the fire alarm went off at 7am on the Sunday which was not ideal. The shower leaked everywhere, the sinks taps were so close to the sink you could barely get your hands under them.
