Ancient history collides with youthful energy in this seaside metropolis where Byzantine churches stand beside bustling cafes. The White Tower offers sweeping views after exploring the Roman Forum's excavated ruins. Aristotelous Square pulses with locals sipping frappés while debating which taverna serves the best mezze. Duck into the Modiano Market where vendors cheerfully offer samples of olives and cheese with theatrical flair. The Museum of Byzantine Culture houses treasures that survived centuries of conquest, while the waterfront promenade fills with everyone from joggers to philosophers at sunset. Don't miss the tiny Church of Saint Demetrius, where underground crypts reveal layers of the city's past beneath ornate mosaics.

Electra Palace Thessaloniki
"I’ve stayed at this hotel for over 10 years when I visit Thessaloniki. Everything is very good except breakfast with reserve sitting. That’s ridiculous leaving a personal item on where you want to sit like they do at a beach chair. The hostess’ checking you in need to be more strict and resolve this issue."
Noa Hotel
"Good location and modern and very clean."
Makedonia Palace
"Room was very comfortable. Breakfast buffet was great. The Hotel is situated 10 minutes walk from the city center amd the city view from the balcony is excellent."
The Modernist Thessaloniki
"Nice modern hotel in an excellent central location. Reception staff were super friendly, helpful and efficient - honestly the best I've come across amongst the hundreds of hotels I've stayed around the world. Breakfast in the rooftop restaurant was great too - good variety of Greek savory and sweet pastries, with eggs made to order. Highly recommended"
The Met Hotel, a member of Design Hotels
"This is a very nice hotel, set in the port area but walkable to the city centre. Alternatively there is a free shuttle to the city centre several times a day (with free returns too). The room was really stylish and modern, with dressing gowns and slippers for each guest. The pool on the roof was really nice. Not heated but that was fine in the Grecian sun! The breakfast was really nice and there were plenty of options. The drinks in the roof or lobby bar are really expensive, but otherwise it’s a nice place to hang out. It could be improved by having chairs on the balcony."
Imperial Plus Urban Smart Hotel Thessaloniki
"Helpful staff. Great location, walkable to nighlife venues. Wonderful breakfast."
NYX Hotel Thessaloniki
"Great!"
COLORS Urban Hotel Thessaloniki
"Safe and great location. Stairs not ideal for seniors"
Modern Luxury Hotel
"Excellent breakfast, central location, short walk to everywhere. Parking 250m away but fast efficient, valet. Staff are friendly and helpful."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Thessaloniki
- Book for the cheapest times: Visiting Thessaloniki on a budget can be a delightful experience, particularly during January to March when hotel prices may drop to lower prices, offering an affordable escape. It is recommended to spend at least 2 to 3 days in this culturally rich city, where you can explore key landmarks, historical sites, and celebrated cultural attractions such as museums, historical monuments, charming cafes, art galleries, and urban churches. This period provides great value for money, making it an ideal time for a budget-friendly visit.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: Hotels.com offers travellers the chance to explore Thessaloniki hotel deals by visiting the DealsOpens in a new window section, where you may discover discounted rates on hotels. For travellers seeking cheap Thessaloniki hotel deals, the Last-Minute Deals section could reveal opportunities near your travel date. By enabling email alerts or push notifications, you’re more likely to see flash sales and special promotions. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app helps compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you have the best information when booking your stay.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary depending on factors including the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your dates could help you save on your stay at a Thessaloniki hotel. For travellers seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels may offer a more personalised service and occasionally provide better value. When booking with Hotels.com, we inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you secure a more affordable option.
- Consider your location: Hotels near the city centre usually command higher rates, but thanks to Thessaloniki’s excellent public transport links, you may find a more affordable independent hotel further afield that is still well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby cities, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
