Great little place in the heart of town
This is a great hotel in the heart of Toronto. I believe there could not be a better location, I could walk everywhere I needed to be (U of T, Eaton Centre, CN, Toronto Island Ferry, Union Station). The price for this location can not be beaten. The Rex is a legendry Jazz Bar, this means sometimes, during the evening, I could hear the Jazz downstairs, but this didnt bother me because apart from I got to hear good jazz for free, I was out every evening and the jazz had finished by 11pm. I believe some rooms don't hear the jazz. The hotel is individual and unique and family owned, I would much rather give a business like that my money than the big chains located nearby. I booked a double room with ensuite, it was bigger than I expected. The room was clean and I could request clean sheets and towels if needed, but it wasn't needed. I didn't request the room to be cleaned (as was offered) because it didn't need it. The communal areas are cleaned daily. All staff I dealt with were knowledgeable and polite. If I needed anything, there was always someone on hand to help. The Rex provide free coffee each morning. I chose to pay a few dollars extra to upgrade breakfast to avocado & egg on sourdough, more breakfast meals were available. Would I stay here again? Of course I would. Would I recommend this to you? If you have read my review then you can make your own mind up, but I have no issues recommending it if you understand this is a unique place. Thanks for a good stay Rex staff!

Just what we needed
Got exactly what i was expecting! We just needed somewhere safe and clean to sleep for a few nights. Not a roomy hotel or anything fancy but adequately priced for what you get.

The room was extremely tiny, but I won't complain. What was an issue was that the standing bath didn't drain water so I had ankle deep water while having bath and had to wash it after I come out. The cooling and Heating was messed up too.

Average comfort. Not fussy.
It was fine. Clean enough and comfortable enough for me. Traveling solo and did not spend much time in room. Free continental breakfast comes with room stay which was a Nice bonus. Location unbeatable. Close to everything downtown. I would stay there again. I’m not fussy.

Good basic hotel, if all you’re looking for is somewhere to get your head down for the night. Would’ve been nice to have a door on the bathroom rather than just a curtain.

You Get What You Pay For
The Rex is a bit like a cleaner hostel with the option to have your own bathroom. But, what's important to note, is that the sheets and towels were all clean, the shower had good pressure and hot water, the bathroom was clean, and the air conditioning worked. They even give you extra pillows from the outset. That said, the walls are stained and full of nail holes, the furniture damaged, and the room very small. But you're also paying a third of what you would at a normal hotel. And the location is on point. If you just need a bed and a shower because you'll be out all night having fun anyways, I say go for it. I would stay there again. Why pay more for aesthetics?

Access to hotel is at side of building and no-one was at desk at 8 am when we hoped to drop off bags. Grateful there was someone working in bar downstairs that helped us and accommodated our request. Loved that hotel is centrally located and price point is excellent. Police station just down the block and City hall also short distance away.
