"Clean room, very quiet, breakfast was great, staffs were helpful, great location, next to the Nanjing road, a walk to the Bund, close to everything, we love it, definitely will come back to this wonderful hotel"
"This is my favorite hotel I have ever stayed at. I got a free upgrade for my birthday and the view and room were INCREDIBLE. I almost turned my trip into a staycation. I ordered room service twice and took the best bath of my life every night. The desk area was perfect for a big meeting I had. There was also turn-down service, and all the staff were incredibly attentive. I even took advantage of the spa as my hotels.com membership gave me a discount. I also thought the bar was nice though it wasn't very full. I would happily stay here again. :)"
"Location is great right in the middle of almost all the attractions of the city's center. Staff was very helpful during our stay, breakfast option was good as well. We had a great time in Shanghai and I think the location of it helped a lot, there is a metro within a couple of minutes of walking!"
"The room was clean, fresh and comfortable. Everything felt pristine and well-maintained.
The premium location is superb — convenient access to key areas, stunning views, and a luxurious atmosphere right in the heart of the city.
Friendly staff made the stay even better.
Highly recommended. Will definitely return!"
"The room is clean and space is great. Location is wonderful. The only thing we concern is the elevator did not use key security. That means any outsider can enter the elevator and come into your hallway."
"Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the Shanghai Marriott Marquis. The location is excellent and makes it a great base for exploring the city. Our room was a good size and offered the level of comfort you'd expect from a Marriott property.
That said, there were a few areas that could be improved. Housekeeping was a little inconsistent. On more than one occasion, the soap or shower gel dispensers weren't refilled, and some glass surfaces still had water marks, as though they had only been wiped over quickly. These are relatively minor issues, but they're not what you'd expect from a hotel of this standard.
The concierge team could also be more proactive. A warmer welcome and a few more smiles would make guests feel much more valued. Unfortunately, the member of staff responsible for arranging taxis was particularly rude to my wife, which was disappointing and something I hope management addresses.
One thing that genuinely surprised me was that the final bill was calculated using the exchange rate on the day of checkout rather than check-in. I'd recommend paying upfront if possible, unless you're happy to take the risk that exchange rates move in your favour.
Finally, be aware that the hotel's laundry service is exceptionally expensive. I'd strongly recommend using one of the many local laundries instead, as you'll save a significant amount.
Despite these criticisms, the hotel still provides the quality and comfort you'd expect from Marriott and I would return."
"Second time staying. Convenient short walk from airport T2. Breakfast not overly expensive and decent options offered. This is my chosen transit hotel, will return again."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Shanghai
Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable months to visit Shanghai are January, February, and December, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For those looking to explore the city’s key historical and cultural landmarks, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended. This timeframe allows for visits to museums, temples, and shopping districts, as well as sightseeing in natural parks and dining at local establishments. Travellers on a budget will find great value for money during these months, as prices may drop, making it an excellent time to experience the rich history and vibrant culture of this bustling metropolis.
Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals to Shanghai, you may start by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you're more likely to see discounted hotel rates as your travel date approaches. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you can quickly seize opportunities as they arise, whether it's a price drop or newly available rooms for your spontaneous getaway.
Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate due to various factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and seasonality, so being flexible with your travel dates could help you secure a more favourable rate for your stay in a Shanghai hotel. If you're seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and may offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price tends to be on the higher side, we will suggest alternative dates that could potentially offer more affordable options, increasing the likelihood that you will find a better deal.
Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Shanghai's exceptional public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel further afield that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less congested neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
