If you're going to Shanghai and want a hotel with the best cost-effectiveness for your stay, I highly recommend the Holiday Inn Express on the Bund. GREAT location. The breakfast is excellent. The room is very beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The best part is the staff: the English is improving, and everyone at the front desk is simply FANTASTIC. I had a problem paying a taxi driver, and the attendant, Jerry Tang, was definitely perfect, demonstrating initiative and a true interest in solving my problem. In short, stop looking. This is an excellent place to stay in Shanghai!

Pros: Clean room and helpful staff. I was able to borrow a universal travel adapter, request an extra pillow, and get daily room cleaning with no issues. Complimentary two bottles of water each day. Convenient location within walking distance to bus stops and the metro. Good breakfast with a rotated menu. Free self-service laundry is a big plus. The washer cycle was quick (about 36 minutes), and the dryer settings were adjustable based on my clothes. Cons: Wi-Fi speed was quite slow. I had to rely on my phone’s hotspot instead.

I have been in China several times and stayed in various hotels. Consider this hotel one of the best. It’s impossible to find a better hotel location with a view of the beautiful Yu Garden on one side and famous Bund on the other. It’s also located just a few steps from the Metro with connection to major destinations. I was deeply touched by the care and attention shown by the entire staff -the front desk (Jerry was best), housekeepers, buffet staff and manager. Clean rooms with all amenities and fully stocked with supplies ranging from toothbrushes to slippers. Bottled water was also provided. Famous Pear Soup is always available as a light local treat at any time of the day. Laundry is also free here. The morning buffet is delicious and varied- available every day with options to suit every taste. On the second floor there is a restaurant with magnificent local dinner cuisine. I highly suggest this hotel as a wonderful place to stay. Will definitely return the next time I am in Shanghai.
