This property was really beautiful and the staff were so kind! Unfortunately as it's an older building, there is no lift to the rooms so it probably won't be accessible to people with mobility challenges.

Staff excellent

Staff were excellent, room was not ready but they give a complimentary drink while we waited which was nice. Bed was excellent a good size and bathroom very good. My only complaint was that although our room (no 3) had a window looking out on the main square, the inner opened but the outer window was old and seized closed. This was a very hot night and no AC so the room was stifling hot so not a good nights sleep.

Happy to stay at the Richard III, and it was OK value for money. The only thing I would say is that the window aperture in room 3 was actually filthy - no other word can describe it. However, it did not upset my one night stay.

Excellent couple of days. Enjoyed evening meal in the bar both nights. Bed was comfortable. We ran out of milk and forgot to ask, but otherwise happy.

6/10 Good

There was no breakfast available as the cook had apparently injured herself (not sure they really needed a cook to put out some cereal and make coffee and toast) and this was not communicated in advance, so we had brought no provisions with us. There was also no food available that evening for some unknown reason, which had also not been communicated anywhere to us. Nowhere else in Middleham was serving food so we had to drive to Leyburn in order to have dinner, which was annoying. The lady who checked us in was rather unhelpful and dismissive. We had to ask to have teabags in the room as none had been provided, only coffee and sugar, and the lady was again rather disgruntled at our request. The room was nice, although if you were tall you wouldn't have been able to have a shower as the ceiling in the bathroom was very low. Parking is also very tricky - when we got back from dinner at 9pm there were no spaces available nearby and we had to park at the other end of the town. It's a shame as we had been really looking forward to this stay and to dinner in the pub, and it could have been a lovely trip but turned into something rather Fawlty Towers-esque.

Although breakfast was mentioned on their site, there was no breakfast. I asked the staff why, when it was on their site, they stated that the new owners did not include breakfast, the staff were a bit embarrassed although they were very good. I did say that it would be better if the hotel could recommend places to eat

Room ok bed was comfy. Just stayed 1night. Unfortunately there was a leaving do. Normally closes at 11 pm but went in till 2am. Not ideal The flushing of other rooms toilets and showers could be heard in our room ( 4 ) needs to be a bit more sound proof Meal we had was lovely Host very nice Town very quiet. Was just a night away from everything for a rest.

Room really good value for money for price paid . Advertised as breakfast available on hotels.com. Definitely not . In the cafe a few doors down . Really noisy due to a leaving party till half 2 in the morning . Would be good to have a box or something to put keys in on departure, we ended up putting ours in the room door so they didn’t get lost .

Excellent Stay Yet Again

Check in was smooth and welcoming. There was plenty of choice for dinner. Breakfast was plentiful, hot and served right on time. The room we had was room 6. It was a little dark and the sloping roof was no problem to us but tall people will bang their heads. There were a few dog treats on the carpet which we just picked up and threw in the bin. There was plenty of tea and coffee, the towels were lovely and fluffy and the bed extremely comfortable. It was our second time staying and we will return again.

4/10 Fair

We were hesitant to book over a weekend but were assured by the 11pm closing time that it wouldn't be too much of an issue; that wasn't the case. When we checked into the 'cosy country pub' we soon learned that the closing times listed online were not correct. We were told we were to pay when we check out, and were shown up to our room. At first the room seemed fine, if a little warm. First problem, the window didn't open. There was an inner double glazed unit which did open, but an outer sash window which didn't. The space between the two windows was THICK with mould, it clearly hadn't been cleaned in months. We soon discovered that the floor was filthy and the toilet seat was both loose, and clearly didn't fit (potentially dangerous). Despite this, we tried to make the most of it. To be fair the food and drinks we had were decent, can't fault that. Our room must have been directly above one of the speakers, I see other reviews describing a quiet stay but that is NOT our experience. Music was thumping until 12 on the Friday night, and 1:30 on the Saturday night. Not ideal in an already hot and stuffy room. Then came checking out. No staff anywhere, we called the pub, no use. We called the number provided by Expedia. No answer. We tried the emergency contact number provided in the room, who informed us she hasn't worked there for months. After 2 hours we got hold of the manager, who informed us payment is taken automatically when we check out. Honestly, can't recommend.

One night stay was ok, but couldn't get anything to eat so had to travel to get something had we known this we would have eaten before getting there, and no breakfast so a bit disappointed, a spoon for tea would have been nice & a bulb in the bathroom out.
