Learn more about Banner Elk
Tucked between two ski resorts, this mountain town transforms with the seasons like a chameleon in hiking boots. Carve fresh powder at Sugar Mountain Resort in winter or whoosh down summer tubing runs at Hawksnest Park when the snow melts. The whimsical Land of Oz theme park atop Beech Mountain offers a yellow brick road less travelled. After outdoor adventures, sample local vintages at Banner Elk Winery or visit Apple Hill Farm to meet alpacas with mountain views. Lees-McRae College adds youthful energy to this small town, while Grandfather Trout Farm lets visitors catch dinner without needing pro-level angling skills. For water-based fun, paddle the gentle currents of Watauga River where the scenery upstages the occasional splash.

Smoketree Lodge
"Very lean nice easy to get to location! The pool area was fantastic and well ventilated. Beautiful place to go enjoy life in the mountains"
Bluegreen Vacations Blue Ridge Village, an Ascend Collection Resort
"We spent the weekend hanging out on the gazebos with friends! What a great way to relax for the beautiful weather this weekend"
Heritage Hill Cabins
"The Heritage Cabin was a very nice rental. Location was in the heart of Valle Crucis, close to Boone and Banner Elk. The cabin is furnished nicely, comfortable beds and beautiful porch overlooking the mountains. The only thing I wasn’t aware of was the fact that there was no WiFi in the cabin which made phone calls and internet difficult. Also many rather steep steps to get up to the cabin from parking area, so be aware of that. Otherwise it is a lovely cabin in the mountains."
4 Seasons at Beech Mountain
"I had the two-level double queen bed suite. Great for a family or couple(s) on a getaway. Great kitchen, closets, and storage space, and 2 bathrooms &2 entrances which was very convenient. Could use some updating, but if you're going for that lodge feel, this is a great option not far from town."
