Fine enough
Easy, quick check in. The room was fine, although the bed hadn’t been made properly. The sheet and topper were all creased up and not tucked in. Food excellent, bar staff great. Handy location.

Good 6,0
Staff in the hotel are wonderful. Very friendly and welcoming. Hotel wise, she’s needing some TLC. Hotel hasn’t been refreshed in years. In our suite the Skylight windows were falling apart, floor lamp not working and living room footrest disgustingly dirty (covered in stains). More attention needed to bring rooms up to scratch.

First and last stay
Booked an upgraded club room to celebrate our anniversary, however, in future think I'd be wary of staying at another Malmaison. Given the current situation with Covid19 check in was as smooth as you would expect but room not to the standard expected. The sink was leaking and I find it hard to imagine this hadnt been noted by housekeeping beforehand. Tried to phone reception to report same but the phone wasnt working neither was the remote for the tv. Given extra towels to soak up leak until maintenance attended but even after they did it still had a drip. Phone was taken away and not replaced so even if we wanted to order room service we couldn't. Bed was comfortable enough, however, due to the large headboard mounted above the mattress the length of the bed was reduced . This meant despite not being 6ft tall my feet were overhanging the end if the bed leading to a poor sleep. Overall i would struggle to recommend anyone stay at this hotel

Plus point was we managed to get an early check in which saved us lumping bags around town until 3pm. However, room was very hot. We did have a fan, but if the windows could open wider (safety catches) it would have made more of a difference. Whilst you could tell the bathroom had been cleaned, there were body hairs dotted around the bath which i had to wipe away before using. The top of the toilet lid had also not been wiped down as there were water marks still showing. Given the current situation with covid, the cleanliness was definitely below standard. Whilst easily fixed and i'm not too precious about things like this, i would deem Malmaison as being more of an affordable luxury stay and therefore would expect higher standards. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed and would have preferred to stay in our usual Travelodge accommodation.

Exceptional 10,0
Loved the Malmaison hotel. Excellent nights sleep in the large individually styled rooms. We had two adjacent rooms and they were quite different. Was easy to park nearby and walk into town. Enjoyed the bar and will be back for sure.

Perfect for a stopover
We stopped for a night to break the journey on a longer trip, really glad we chose the Malmaison as we had a lovely stay. The staff were very welcoming and explained everything that’s a bit different to normal due to the Covid situation. We had a Club room with a king bed, it was a really good sized space and the bed was super comfortable. Didn’t eat in the Brasserie but we had drinks in the bar - again served by friendly, helpful staff. Would definitely like to come back in future.
