Excellent location, good breakfasts and friendly staff. The small rooms on the secondary hotel (not the main one) are very very small, they smell like old wet carpet, humid and the music playing downstairs is not as bad, depending how close you are to the bars.

We had an absolutely lovely time here. The location is very convenient and close to public transportation. It is right across a nice park/green space in the center area of Oslo. The most amazing part of this Hotel was the absolutely phenomenal breakfast! Best breakfast I’ve ever had.. they had anything you could ever want and everything was extremely fresh and delicious.

Lovely location central to sights and ferries. A budget room here does not have AC and is identified as such in the hotel signs. I thought that was not appropriate. Nice breakfast and good value for downtown Oslo.

Stayed in the Economy room(s) side of the hotel- gate 35. Very comfortable, the bed fit two adults well and the comforter (duvets) were exceptional. Breakfast in Norway seems to be an important meal-more so than on the States. That being said, the spread offered each morning at Johan was 5 stars. Honestly I would pay separately to just eat breakfast here

The staff was fantastic. The facilities on the Karl Johan Hotel (33) side were great but the old part (35) were shabby. The bathroom had some mold and the jazz club downstairs kept me up at night. The room was very small, but worked. Breakfast was fantastic and bed+bedding was quite good. Overall it was a positive experience and considering the comparatively cheap price point for Norway and the most central location possible in the whole city, it was still a win!

Keep in mind there is a remodeling, construction going on outside of the hotel inside an old building down below the guests room. We were not able to relax during the day nor sleep in the morning due to constant loud noises. It looks like this activity has been going on for some time and will be continuing for some time as well. Be aware! The breakfast was great.

Wonderful location
The reception was OK, but won´t hurt to add a bit smile! The room was so hot (30C+), and noises from pubs below made me stay awake until 4 in the morning! I got a warning message from the hotel for the noise, but it would have been better if I was warned before I selected the room! Nevertheless, the breakfast buffét was amazing, definitely a 5-star one!

There was black mold all over the ceiling in the bathroom. There's no ventilation neither so you inhale all of it. I'm not sensitive but I woke up after one night with a sore throat and coughing. The hotel says it's "clear on the booking page" that it's a budget version of the other hotel because ventilation is not turned on. Not something anyone actually sees and you except an expensive hotel to not make you sick, even if it's their discounted price. Poor people is ok to make sick? (Poor being one person not wanting to pay 300 EUR for a bigger room for one single night). Awful.

Chaos with room assignments
My stay was good. Room was adequate for budget and breakfast was great. However I had a terrible experience during check in. I was given a key to a room that was already occupied and basically walked into someone's belongings (person wasn't there). I turned around w/o touching a thing but I could have easily taken an entire purse and sunglasses which were just lying there. Or worse walk into someone. After that there was a terrible confusion about which room was available for me. I spent the remainer of my stay afraid someone would walk in on me.

Ok (ish)
The location looked okay, but my room was right on top of a restaurant bar with live music. It was very small, and I later found out I had booked a room on the "economy" side of the hotel. It had no A/C, and the air was very stuffy. Did I mention the room was small? The breakfast was awesome - but given that I left early, I wasn't able to enjoy it on the second day, and I was not allowed a refund. Overall, there are better options in Oslo. Even by Oslo standards, this was expensive.

Høy musikk og lite søvn
Først vil jeg si at personalet jeg møtte var nydelige mennesker. Når det kommer til selve oppholdet fikk jeg et rom mot en bakgård hvor det også er en bar. Jeg sov 2-3 timer i løpet av natten da musikken var så høy og bassen så voldsom at det ikke var mulig å sove. Når man betalet for et hotellrom er det for å ha et sted å sove godt, det skjedde ikke her. Veldig synd da hotellet i seg selv er fint og de som jobbet der veldig søte.
