Let’s start by saying this, if you are expecting 5 star, you will be sorely disappointed. I honestly feel bad writing this review, because the staff here is great. They are friendly, attentive and very helpful, but that is where the buck stops. I will break down every element of our stay at Occidental, but I urge you to carefully read the reviews and discern what’s actually legitimate.
Location - Occidental @ Xcaret is in the jungle. You are going to see all sorts of wildlife. Monkeys, iguanas, deer, etc….in certain spots of the resort, it will even smell like you are at the zoo. The outdoor lobby is the largest part of the resort. Most of the shops, restaurants, gym, clubs, pharmacy can be found here. It’s a nice view and sadly the nicest part of the entire resort.
Service - the service here is pretty good. Regina and Leo were great, they even helped us out with a broken luggage situation that saved us some time and energy. The wait staff was very accommodating and attentive. The only negative about the service is that they are a bit too pushy when it comes to pushing guests to check out their membership club. If folks say there are not interested, leave it at that.
Rooms - the rooms here are horrible. They are small, out dated and extremely basic. These are not 5 star accommodations. They are closer to 2 star. The air conditioning worked but it was still very humid and warm in our room at night, even after adjusting the temperature to the highest AC setting. Most of the
