If you want to feel like a Duke or Duchess, stay here. The property and grounds are amazing, the room was large with period appropriate furniture and decor. The breakfast was lovely and the hotel is close to other amenities. Quiet property with lovely views from the rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

From a distance, Islay House looks spectacular. But once you apply the door, and throughout the interior, you are flooded with faded glory, deferred maintenance, and inadequate attention. Breakfast was very good.

Interesting historic building. Great location. Renovations in progress- but no disturbance- it’s a long term project. Enjoyed the grandeur. And seating areas and the bar.A negative was they forgot to clean our room so we had to get new provisions and towels. A bit quirky. Generally a good place to stay on Islay.

The property is a grand old country house within walking distance of Bridgend. Our standard room was spacious and had lovely views over the grounds and the sea beyond. There were no chairs or a sofa in the room, even though there was ample space, so enjoying the view wasn't an easy option. The bed was comfy and the Nespresso machine was a nice touch. The communal areas were very inviting but we didn't utilise them as we were only staying one night. Cooked breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty.

Only one dog friendly room available. Charging outrageous fees for dogs in other rooms. Television was unavailable for our stay. Staff friendly.

What an outstandingly beautiful grand old manor house and grounds. The description of the hotel doesn’t do it justice. There are renos coming to the exterior but overall the room was clean and stocked with everything any guest could need. We stayed in the Margadale which was grandly spacious with a beautiful view of the front lawn and the sea. Deep tub was amazing for a soak. No restaurant on site for dinner but we made use of the bar in the evening. Cozy atmosphere, perfect for intimate conversations or a get to know you with other guests from abroad. The reception staff was so gracious and lovely. Unfortunately we had an early ferry booked and couldn’t take in the breakfast. Other guests assured us it was fantastic. Highly recommended for any trip to Islay. We will be back!

The property definitely needs some updating, it is a little bit on the rundown side, but it has absolutely stunning and well maintained grounds, which I highly recommend taking the time to explore. The House is unique and has a lot of potential. Staff was quite helpful and our room was very clean. It’s definitely off the beaten path so expect to walk a little bit for a bus stop or pre-reschedule a taxi. Do not rely on Uber on the island. So make sure to plan ahead and decide where you want to have meals. Breakfast at the property is good, but there is not an on-site restaurant in no room service. You need to make sure that you are selecting a restaurant in town and booking a table.
