2/10 Poor

My 3 night was a brutal comedy of errors involving ignored dietary restrictions, defective accommodations, nonexistent sound insulation, unreliable Wi-Fi, dishonest explanations, and an extraordinary failure to help me leave. Despite telling the hotel that I was vegetarian, I was served chicken. The food was exceedingly mediocre. My cabin had a gap in the glass door, birds attacked its mirrored windows from early morning, and I could hear every word and movement from the adjoining cabin. By the 2nd day, it was so bad I asked to end my stay early. I told the onsite manager that the hotel could keep my payment and that I would pay whatever necessary for a flight/driver. I repeatedly insisted, but hours passed without action. The guest manager in Arusha offered amenities by text and tried to de-escalate instead of arranging transport. I have now been told by lawyers that keeping me there was illegal. The manager gave explanations I knew were false, then disappeared for 4 hours while my requests to staff by radio went unanswered. Soon, sundown arrived and made travel prohibited. The hotel had wasted the entire afternoon of daylight. When I said I was being kept there against my will, the guest manager absurdly replied that I could leave whenever I wanted, although I had no vehicle, dependable service, or way to leave. I am told that “Kumbukumbu” means memory or remembrance in Swahili. In that sense, the camp lives up to its name: an unqualified disaster you will never forget.
