Beautiful place nice location. Rooms a little tired in places but otherwise lovely place.

Trendy, great ambience. Nice place

We stayed here for the night as we were going to the Farmers Dog pub for dinner. This is a great pub/restaurant with rooms. We were in the annexe across the court yard. Room was nice with plenty of space . Complimentary water, hot drinks, biscuits, shower toiletries and comfy top quality bedding. The only downside was the shower was a little awkward. Big waterfall shower but fitted a bit close to the taps so in order to be underneath it you had to stand right by the taps over the plug hole and it didn’t flow that fast. But we weren’t too bothered by that as only one night stay. We sat in the bar and had drinks, staff were friendly and polite, nice atmosphere. We had breakfast which was yummy with plenty of choice. Overall a nice place to stay, would stay here again.

This is the first time of travelling both for business and pleasure over 40 years that I have felt the need to review so negatively. Service at dinner and breakfast was painfully slow. This was not helped by the chef, in full view, who at breakfast, was more intent on bantering with his colleague than focusing on getting food out.. Not at all focused. Our breakfast took 35 minutes in what was a very quiet dining room at the time. Poached eggs were appallingly over cooked for our avocado and eggs. Room 17 smelt and felt damp. Very tired and in need of refurbishment at these prices. Very overpriced based on service, quality and comfort. I'm sorry, I'm really unhappy about what we paid for our night away.

A lovely find

Stayed for two nights. Great spot and would return. Rooms comfy and clean, 2nd floor ones are a bit of a trek. Ate in one night, food good, service dodgy at first but ended up fab. Smelly downstairs disabled toilet that we walked past on our way to the room was the only real negative.
Can’t beat an espresso martini to finish. Even the decaf one was good.
Great artwork
Artichoke, pardon peppers and meatballs- small plates whilst we were choosing.

The room at a glance was tidy but there was a damp smell upon walking into the room. The bathroom extractor fan was not working, bathroom had lots of mould and extremely damp smelling. The room itself was also mouldy in places. The soundproofing was terrible. The next door room decided to watch Jurrasic Park or the likes, and tv must have been at the highest level possible because we could hear everything and subsequently took my son ages to fall asleep. Then at 1am I was woken by some people out on the street bellowing and making such a racket that I lay awake for a few hours. Terrible experience and won't be returning

Breakfast was awful and service was terrible. Room was underwhelming and over priced dramatically. Not ran very well atall. Check in was a joke with unprofessional staff. Wouldn't recommend nor return. Ver

Disappointing Stay

We booked a 'Superior' double. It was on the top floor at the front so lots of stairs and noisy from outside til about 1am. The bedroom door had a dodgy lock so didn’t open easily - required lots of rattling and a 'knack' which we had to discover in order to get into the room... must have been noisy for our 'neighbours'. The heated towel rail didn’t heat up. The bedside light and one reading light didn't work. The room supplied inadequate teabags and milk cartons- when more was requested the hotel staff said they had run out of UHT milk cartons. They did however bring up a jug of milk and some tea bags which was good of them. Breakfast Service was so laid back we couldn't risk ordering more tea on Sunday as it had taken so long to appear on Saturday that we couldn’t drink it as we had somewhere specific to be at 10 a.m. both days. Staff were friendly and pleasant but overall a disappointing stay. Shame as have stayed there several times before and had no problems. Could do better!

Great room.

Lovely place , clean spacious , comfortable room, nice coffee in room. Breakfast was excellent. Easy and quick check in and out. Right in the middle of Witney so really close to shops and cinema.

Witney stay.

Overall very good. However the stay in room 15 Involved a lot of steps! Not good when in your 70s.

Always stay at the Blue Boar when visiting Witney. Convenient being central. Parking, though not on site, is 3 mins walk away in the Woolgate carpark and free from check in until check out. Breakfast is exceptional - waiter service and chef prepared. Room are simple, but each have an iron and ironing board and hairdryer. Toiletries in bathroom. Aircon in my room much needed as room looked on to main High Street so not really able to open windows. The night I stayed the local council decided to clean the drains during the night. The noise made for a very disturbec night. The hotel were unaware and when i went to reception at 1am they were luckily able to find me another room at the back of the hotel. Had they been full, not sure what could have been done. Price comparison with local chain hotels is a no brainer - this is far better value.

Average at best

Great location in centre of Witney. Nice bar and restaurant- if a little gloomy for breakfast and seats could do with a bit of attention. Room was basic and looked like it needed a bit if tlc. Bathroom looked like it has or had damp issues and smelt musty. Noisy at night until bar closed as our room was across the courtyard at the rear. Stay was ok but have had better for same price . Not sure we’d stay again.

Very quaint, great atmosphere being a pub downstairs with rooms above. It wasn’t noisy even on the weekend. We had a large room for 3. Breakfast choices were fabulous. The staff in the dining room were extremely nice and helpful. I would definitely return to the Blue Boar.

Hotel was fine and in middle of witney unfortunately they allocated us a Disability room so although a nice size the bathroom didn’t have a wow factor
