4/10 Fair

Hotel was decent but in a seedy neighborhood with many homeless people occupying the sidewalks. The amenities were hit or miss and the coffee shop closed. Room was nice but very small, like European hotels. No desk for working and air conditioning didn't work.

Not great
Hotel is not up to speed, lobby restaurant and coffee shop closed. Dirty room with hair in shower.

4/10 Fair

Does not live up to the 9.0 rating
Hotel got good reviews but they seem to be dated. Hotel is surrounded by homeless people which they can’t do anything about but makes for an uncomfortable stay if you have children. The room smelled awful due to the bathroom moldy smell. Toilet was also clogged so we got to plunge our own toilet for two days. There are night clubs right beside the hotel which ensure you will have difficulty sleeping before 3am on Thursday to Saturday nights. The staff were friendly and the hotel looks nice but too many negatives. We checked out after two days and found a new hotel.

Great Hotel, dodgy neighborhood
Our stay was good. Sad the coffee shop wasn’t open but there was a table with free coffee that was helpful. The location is edgy but not in a good way. As a woman alone, I did not always feel safe in the neighborhood. Loved the rooftop restaurant.

Soo cool! Except the bathroom:/
Staff was very helpful and friendly. The style of the hotel was very cool- interesting and unique. The restaurant at the top of the hotel was wonderful, cool views, great food, excellent service. Negatives: the heat in our room was cranked up to 84 degrees- probably to help dry our the bathroom, since the whole unit smelled of mildew. The bathroom tile and grout was very dark, so I couldn't see how clean the tile might be- but the smell was disturbing. The bathroom sink was tiny- the kind you'd chose for a sink and toilet only "powder room". There was zero counter space, meaning I had to spread out my toiletries on a clean towel on the floor! Each time I washed my face I got water down my legs and on my feet- that's how cramped the sink was :( The rest of the room and hotel was so stylish, but the sink and ZERO counter space was a deal breaker for me.

Counting on the Hoxton to lead PDX out of its funk
I really feel for the Hoxton and their wonderful staff as they are making valiant efforts to create a safe, comfortable environment in a "sketchy" part of Portland. Hotels like this matter. They help chart a path out of the street life malaise. Room was quiet, clean and met expectations. Staff clearly care.
