Great hotel, but un-eco friendly breakfast!
This hotel was great. Basic, but great and for the price (especially in Japan and especially in Tokyo) I was impressed. We went for the Iori room which was spacious enough. It had a king bed in, a small closet and a mini sitting area. The decor was modern and the room and bathroom were both very clean and well maintained. The only problem that my wife and I had with this place was the breakfast - not the food, which was very delicious. Small selection but what was on offer was healthy and tasty (rice, soup, bread, fresh fruit, eggs and protein with an amazing selection of cold brew teas). What the problem was, was the use of disposable and single-use plastics. Soup bowls, water cups, coffee cups, chopsticks and cutlery were ALL single-use paper or plastic, which is totally unsustainable. This really bothered us, particularly when the hotel is almost brand new and there has been no thought put into environmentally friendly practices. What’s even worse is that, plates and rice bowls are ceramic and glasses are available in the rooms, so it seems completely ridiculous that they haven’t carried that down to the breakfast area. It was a real let down in an otherwise good hotel. If you’re an eco-friendly person then it probably will drive you crazy too!

Hotel is great but the location is at lease 10min walk from a subway station which in the summertime is super critical as it's super hot and humid. Room is relatively small, barely opened my 28" luggage but it's all very comfortable with great facilities. Breakfast is OK but not more than that, could have more items at the buffet.

New and modern boutique hotel
This is a new and modern hotel in Shinbashi area that is also close to shiodome which offers several shopping and eateries. I really appreciate the selection of fine tea that is beyond standard hotel services including those of five star standing. The breakfast was a plus as it offered good quality bread and teas.

Everything is great except the limited food options at the cafe. But Shimbashi area has more than enough places to eat to make for this. Otherwise, the hotel is very clean, very conveniently located (8 to 15 mins to any of the 3 stations) and has a great team which responds very quickly and tries their best to help. Don't miss the Japanese green tea that's available from early evening at the reception.

Small and perfect.
Brilliant find in a great location. This is the best of the evolving Japanese hospitality scene: pricing is reasonable, and the room is small. BUT, the design of the hotel is exceptionally thoughtful. Though small, the room had everything: a queen sized bed, 32" flat screen tv, tablet based service and information devices (including in-room check out). Spotless cleanliness and high build quality make the small space a pleasure to stay in. I was tempted to withhold such a glowing review due to selfish reasons, but the better angels won...the hotel and its staff deserve every accolade and I know it will enjoy the loyalty of all the guests lucky enough to have experienced Hotel 1899, including me.
