Staff at Melrose- brilliant! Gentelmen at the check in was very welcoming and helpful. Facilities were nice, lower score only due to bathroom lock being taken out and us not being able to close bathroom doors because of that. When reported we were told that is due to safety as people taking drugs.

Hotel was super clean and nice when we went, beds are very comfy too. Slightly disappointed that our hotel room was in the basement with no window although I did read reviews about these rooms maybe they should make it clearer that these are the rooms you are given? As many others have stated too, our room had a damp smell for the duration of our stay, as if someone’s just came out the shower however when the a/c was turned on smell was away, unlike most other reviews i have read our a/c worked fine our full trip. The tv is in a very awkward place and we weren’t able to get ours to work. The Melrose although still in Central Amsterdam is in a slightly quieter area as it is off the main strip where most of the touristy shops are. Despite the basement room as I was prepared for this after reading other reviews, me and my partner would stay here again if we were to come back. :)
