Ok stay but has issues
Great location, the beds are comfortable and the staff are good. The problem is it's noisy (no soundproofing in the doors), the bathrooms are awful (bad shower pressure, water gets everywhere because the shower curtains aren't long enough, the sink is tiny and badly placed), and the elevators take forever because people are always flooding up and down to and from the rooftop bar.

Comfortable and fun!
This hotel was very fun and comfortable! The room was cozy and the bed was nice. Luckily we seemed to have quiet neighbors and didn’t experience any noise in the middle of the night, though i could tell the walls seemed thin at times. I loved how the room was decorated and loved how many onsite options there were for food and drinks. Only complaints: the heater had a mind of its own and resetting the temp didn’t seem to work, it was stuck on 74 which is way too hot for me to sleep. We had to open the window despite it being 25 degrees out. Also the shower was set up a bit weird and got water all over the floor whenever we showered, we couldn’t figure out why. I’d give this place a solid 7.5 out of 10.

Hmm...I dunno
I used to frequent the George Washington when it was still a dormitory for my alma mater & was excited to see what might have been updated and improved. Sadly, almost nothing has been improved, but merely painted or shellacked-over & slightly re-arranged. The decor was definitely cute, but the hundreds year old exterior windows still lack any kind of insulation, meaning not only does the noise of a busy NYC street come right through, but so did the very chilly winter-air all day and night long with only the shades providing any kind of shield. For instance: at 7AM on a Saturday, we couldn't tell if someone was blasting music from inside or outside the Hotel walls, due to the exceptionally weak insulation. Hoping to grab a shower before my event, after a long day of hoofing-it around NYC, but apparently when I turned the shower on, I activated some stagnant water or filth in the shower, because the smell in the bathroom (and consequently the entire, small room with no ventilation) quickly became like that of a public Rest Stop bathroom on the side of a major highway. Bad. Mildew and/or mold, plus what might have been urine: the smell was just ungodly. You'd never know the cleanliness of the bathrooms however, due to the dark forest-green colored tile that is floor-to-ceiling throughout the renovated bathrooms and showers. Needless to say, we got no showers during this trip. Thankful for the price in this neighborhood, but also very thankful that our trip was only 72hrs.

My room was cold. Engineering came several times. Heat would not stay on. Finally, brought me a portable heat unit.

Business Bunks?
A group of us were traveling for business and had 6 individual rooms booked and upon check in they tried to put all 6 people in a bunk room. When told everyone was to have their own rooms they still tried pairing people up. Luckily they had enough rooms available to accommodate everyone but it was just a strange occurrence considering the rooms were booked for 6 individuals. Once everyone was settled, everything else went totally fine.

Stay at ACE hotel instead
Everything about the hotel screams "Budget" except for the overpriced rooftop bar and attached restaurant. We stayed in the corner king, essentially the best room you can get at the Freehand.Despite that, the upgrade was worthless: - Toilets are small, awkwardly close to the wall, and low to the ground - No vents in bathroom (enjoy a steamy hotel room) - Noise - Mini-fridge is extremely small. You actually can't fit a regular sized bottle of water in the fridge - $18 cocktails and $15 beer (This is pricey even for NYC) - The doorman and cleaning staff are great, the front desk staff are not (pretty much ignore you) - Dark carpet is obviously dirty - They give you as few towels as possible - Stand up shower gets water everywhere and without a vent in the bathroom to help it evaporate, your bathroom is just wet This place benefits from "looking cool" but is honestly soulless, cheap, and not worth your team. Which I guess is the most NYC experience you could ask for.

Freehand didn’t disappoint
Service was great, staff was friendly and the location was perfect for the family. Just wish we could adjust the temp in our room. It was a bit chilly.

Freehand NYC
Having previously enjoyed staying at the Freehand in Miami I choose to stay at their New York branch. However, overall the hotel was slightly disappointing. Although it had a number of good bars and restaurants and was in a good location, the rooms themselves were not great. There was very little storage space, and our shower flooded the bathroom floor every time we used it. Toiletries were not replaced and the room also seemed a bit shabby. Thankfully it didn’t detract from the stay, we just wouldn’t stay there again.

Staff Service need improvement
We booked 2 double rooms in this hotel for 5 nights stay each. The moment we went in the room, one room with drinking water, the other room none. Every day we left the tipping for house keeping on the table, the money is gone but no drinking water, call for house keeping to send, some day you will get it, but some day you don't, and you got to call-in individually (each room), so don't expect it. Went to front desk to ask for an envelope, was told to wait and he attend to a check-in guest after me.
