There was no breakfast at this bed & breakfast, although they offered a $7.50 voucher for a small place 5 miles away. There was one friendly restaurant a short walk down Main Street, but most of the other businesses were closed for the season. The room was not in the house pictured, but in a small building next to the house. Clean, quiet, well furnished. You are in a very remote part of Virginia.

As others have said you don't stay in the actual mansion but that is OK. We stayed in the Rebecca Ann room which has a different (actually better) room arrangement than in the photo. There is no separate dining room for breakfast. It is actually delivered to your room and they are very flexible about what time and what type of food. There is a little closet on the second floor that is set up as a butlers pantry that has a small fridge that you can use to keep any snacks or beverages that you bring with you cold. We had a lovely time one evening sitting on the patio on the mansion sipping wine with another couple who were staying there.

The Gables is a beautiful mansion on the water; very historic and owners friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, health issues of owner meant that we couldn't take a tour of mansion, stay in the main house, and were not given breakfast that was supposed to be a part of our stay. Owner said that since we booked online, we couldn't receive a reduction in our price. Would check out status of owners before booking again.
