McMenamins Crystal Hotel
Beautiful But NOISY
I really do like Mcmenamins Crystal. It has a fantastic location, tons of history, and fascinating paintings on the walls. But trying to get a hairdryer at check-in is like a bad rendition of "Who's on First", and last night I was woken by a room shaking thud at 3 A.M. that the front desk refused to investigate. (Have also had drunks knock on my door at odd hours, and front desk didn't seem to believe my reports.)

Be prepared for parking/food problems...
Room was fine, as many have noted the bathrooms aren’t in your room but there was never a line and they were quite nice. There isn’t any parking so you have to find street parking where you won’t be ticketed, or take a cab/Uber, etc. Because parking was such an issue we decided to eat in the hotel. We went to the restaurant before the soaking pools to plan our evening, they mentioned that at 10 they changed menus and showed us the late menu, which looked fine to us. We soaked in the pool, which is highly recommended. Upon returning to the restaurant at 10:45 we were told that they weren’t serving because they closed at 11. I wish they’d told us that when we checked in the first time, we would have eaten there and then. The bar was open and had the same late night menu but the music was obnoxiously loud and I would’ve preferred eating in the restaurant as we had planned. The problem was that they were out of almost everything on the (already limited) menu... no chicken wings, no burgers, actually no protein at all on the menu. I asked if they could make an exception and cook a piece of beef/chicken/fish/pork/etc from the regular menu since they were out of everything else. No. They could only put bacon on their falafel burger. I tried it and couldn’t eat it, too dry, and they were kind enough not to charge me. The Cesar salad was good. The truffle fries weren’t hot or crispy, seemed a bit stale. Ended up ordering a pizza down the street and walking to pick it up.

Seattleites staying overnight...
Great location! Super close to Powell's book store, tons of food options. Rooms were clean - we were iffy on the shared bathroom scenario at first, but those were clean also! Awesome indoor saltwater pool... would stay there again!

Interesting historical place
It’s a historical building more than 100 years old well maintained. My kids may enjoy staying here but not an old man like me. Shared bathroom was very clean but still not very convenient for me.
