The Dean Hotel
Diminutive Dean
The room was fine and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, the shower was so small that I could barely turn around and the "closet" consisted of six hangers on hooks on the wall. I've stayed in hotels in NYC and other big cities that had small rooms and small bathrooms, but this went a bit beyond that with the shower. Maybe I'm not hip enough for this hotel, but I won't be staying here again.

Cute boutique for a short stay
The Dean Hotel was definitely an experience! I think I would have enjoyed it more for a weekend trip, but I stayed there for 4 nights and it was a little too much for me, personally. The only thing that was a bit weird was that the shower had half a door, but overall, the place was good. But the main reason why it's a little much for me and why I probably don't want to go back is less on the hotel and more of just the surroundings. Since it's situated in a downtown area near a lot of bars, there was a lot of loud folks every night and I didn't sleep very well. Even being on the top floor (4th floor), you could still hear the people outside very clearly. But, in general, it's a really fun spot that has good breakfast and restaurant connected directly (which was perfect when it was raining incredibly hard). The people who work at the hotel are incredibly nice and helpful (gave us good tips on local eats) and I'm glad I got a chance to stay here.

Negatives outweigh the positives
Our room looked nice initially - bright and clean, and the entire staff from check-in to valet park attendants were extremely nice. However, the room itself lacked so many essentials to make a comfortable stay that made us happy to leave after two nights. 1. The bathroom was so tiny, with no counter space, nor a shelf in the shower to put toiletries. We ended up using a chair to put our stuff on which barely even fit in the room. The door hit the toilet and you could not stand at the sink unless the door was completely shut. The shower floor leaked into the bathroom itself, the water didn't drain, and there was only one very small towel rack -- a complete design fail. 2. There was no closet, just two hooks with hangers and no dresser or useful furniture. 3. The room was so sparsely lit, that there was not one place to read anything. We needed to use our phone flashlights to see anything -- with all the lights on. 4. There was no fridge, no coffee maker, no safe. But they thought to include condoms (!) with the incidentals which was silly and almost insulting. 5. It was SO NOISY on Saturday night from midnight until past 2:00. We needed to drive early the next morning and were both in very bad shape from lack of sleep. Overall this hotel is only good for the extremely adolescent, who have yet to cultivate experience of other hotels to compare this to. The management should spend less time and money on the neon and red hall lighting, and invest in creature comforts.
