Fine but could have been bettet
Hotel room good size and in excellent location. Just few small niggles - shampoo and conditioner on wall blocked and unusable, no sound on BBC channels (reception said was a known licensing issue due to be sorted) and couple of buttons on tv remote didn’t work. Room was expensive due to high demand on the day so expected better attention to detail. As previous reviews have mentioned cooked breakfast was a bit rubbish. Rock hard bacon, cheapest, nastiest sausages ever, no mushrooms, black pudding.

Excellent service from great staff
A trifle trepidatious about staying in Newcastle over a Friday and Saturday night, given its reputation for partying. I asked for a quiet room and was delighted to find that my sleep was undisturbed by the kind of drunken comings and goings that can afflict hotels at the weekend. My room was clean and much roomier than the last HbyH I stayed at a few weeks back. The hotel itself could not be better situated if you are travelling by train. I came out of the station following Maps on my phone, glanced up and there it was 20 metres away across the road. Most sights and shopping are within a ten minute walk so I was able to see everything I wanted to fairly comfortably. Breakfast was somewhat restricted in choice, given that this is not a small hotel, and the lack of fresh fruit salad was disappointing. The bacon was leathery from being under the heat lamps, but that's the price you pay for a buffet. Hands up all those who remember when you ordered what you wanted! I had two meals from the bar and they were both as good as any I've had. The main reason for my "excellent" rating was the service. Several members of staff went above and beyond to meet my needs and ensure my stay was enjoyable and comfortable. If forces to find something wrong it's the lack of a toilet brush! I don't see how the reasons for not supplying one are outweighed by those for. If, like me, you're fastidious, you want a clean toilet. I'll probably pack my own next time ;-) :-)

Lovely hotel in centre of Newcastle. Room was clean and a good size with a well fitted bathroom. Only downside was no on site parking.
