    Disappointing!

First impressions create a lasting impression and sadly, the first impression of the Dickleburgh Crown was not good. The pub itself appeared very run down and the areas around the accommodation needed a lot of TLC. It’s a shame as the set up is very good with each of individual rooms having lots of character. Our room was very spacious with exposed beams adding character and a very large, comfortable king sized bed. The place is also very quiet with secure on site car parking but sadly, that’s where the positives end. The room could definitely have been cleaner and relied on the window to be open to mask the damp musky smell. Our toilet flush also didn’t work properly which was very frustrating. I’m not sure they can class itself as a B&B as, whilst we would’ve paid extra for the breakfast, it was never offered to us. That saying, the pub (not restaurant as advertised) was dark and dingy and very dusty so we would never have entertained eating there. This meant we had no choice but to travel to eat…thankfully Diss offers many lovely restaurants to choose from. Also, as someone who is also not a cat lover, I was horrified to be advised upon arrival that their ‘pub cats’ roam freely around the grounds and inside pub and had a tendency to try to access people’s rooms (the neighbouring room had allowed the cats to sleep in their room). Whilst mine is just a fear, this would not be acceptable if you had an allergy to cats. Sadly I wouldn’t recommend it.

The accommodation was very damp 1 walland skirting blown with damp. Although the bedding was clean the pillow underneath stank of stale sweat. I would not recommend anyone else to stay.

Excellent little Country Pub with accommodation

We arrived fairly late on the first night and were met by the hosts in the bar. The accommodation was ready and waiting for us, the room was very spacious, clean and well presented. Once we had freshened up we went back in to the bar where we were welcomed by the locals and had a wonderful evening drinking and chatting. The hosts even made us a lovely ploughman’s even though it was quite late. All in all a wonderful place to stay in rural Norfolk within striking distance of all the main areas that you would want to visit. The hosts are excellent and the locals are welcoming. It is somewhere we will be looking at staying the next time we visit Norfolk or north Suffolk

    A lovely stay.

Our hosts where great, very welcoming. Our room was lovely, unfortunatly a lot of cobwebs, but it did not spoil anything and after being closed for so long its to be expected. Breakfast was fantastic and very reasonable and you get a platefull. Reduced menu for evening meals but again reasonably priced. We have already booked to return in August.

    Awful

Awful. Towels were old and stained. Worn carpet. The shower doors didn’t shut and the shower base was stained. Very poorly maintained. We paid for the night but decided to leave after using the shower. Couldn’t wait to leave.
