The getaway
It was an absolutely beautiful view from the balcony looking out to the water and wildlife.

Very basic and overpriced
Pros: The view from our room was INCREDIBLE! The location is great for everything in the Chincoteague/Assateague area. The outdoor pool is well-kept and looks fun. Coffee was good at breakfast. Cons: We were very surprised to get there are see that this is actually a motel and not a hotel. It's not described as such and the pictures on the website do an excellent job hiding that fact. When checking in, the desk staff decided that we were not able to have the room we reserved with a king bed because we had our daughter with us (under age 12). And yet, they still charged us the same price, even though the motel's website listed them differently. Room was tolerably clean, although one of the blankets had something brown and crusty on it and the room had an old, musty odor. The dresser drawers smell like pickles were spilled in them. Trash was never emptied during our three-night stay, nor were beds made. The housekeeping staff did knock on the door each day and ask if we needed anything, though. Water pressure is dismal and would flash cold for a second every minute or two as if a toilet had been flushed somewhere in the building. Towels and sheets are budget-quality, not what I would expect from a $240/ night room. I was not impressed--my father stayed a mile down the street in a much nicer (not strange-smelling, with daily housekeeping) hotel for the same price. The Island Resort needs upgrading to the 1990s, at least, to be able to compete.

Would visit for summers to come!
Beautiful views, fun to share the outdoor pool with a couple of gulls, friendly lady in the breakfast room and nice people at reception desk. Would definitely stay again. Weird but interesting loud splashing in the channel outside our patio about 1:30 am...still wondering what sort of sea creature that was! Indoor pool open to 9 pm, but outdoor pool is open until 11 pm and we had it mostly to ourselves and water was warm. I never did find the hammocks I saw in pics online, but there is a garden across from the lobby and a swing to watch the sunset. Patio also faces sunset and you can watch and wave at boats going by. Good bird-watching. AC when you want it, extra towels if you need them. Wrong-sized coffee bags for in-room coffee maker so that was more like bad weak tea, but you can get better coffee in the breakfast room which had a nice selection of food (included in room price). Walking distance to ice cream stands, restaurants, shops...short drive to Nature Preserve where the ponies are. Even the nice local who was repairing slight hurricane damage to the hotel told us about the fishing, wildlife, sharks. We stayed three night from Wed on so it may have been especially peaceful since it wasn’t a weekend. Worth the money but we hope to find the hammocks next time! 🙂

Beautiful
The staff was friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast great! No fault, but 3 suggestions. 1. Toilets are low and not elongated seat 2. Could use handles in tub for safety 3. Need luggage racks for suitcases, etc., to save trips to room.

I would definitely recommend this hotel
It is not perfect, but I can't say anything bad about this place. Nice room, great location (can't beat the view), decent breakfast, friendly people, and we got a great rate. Family of 4, had a very good stay.
