Great Pub Inn close to some places of interest
This was our second stay at the Royal Oak. Although not in Durham itself. Durham is close by and the North Pennine AONB and Hadrian's Wall areas are within 25 miles with the drive over Weardale being particularly scenic. The staff are always welcoming and we have a great stay whenver we have been. The food is excellent although I would just mention they do not serve food on Sunday evenings. The nearest place on a Sunday night is 4 miles away. Loads of local, atmosphere in traditional pub.

Excellent traditional pub with good food
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Surprisingly good quiet location despite village name. Easy access to Durham and Newcastle as well as other tourist / walking locations towards Corbridge, Haltwhistle and the Tees valley Natural England area. Great helpful staff and friendly locals make this traditional pub a good venue for people visiting this area. The pub serves very good home cooked affordable food. I will definitely be returning in the future,

Excellent Value - No complaints
The staff were friendly, the food was very good, the room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Regulating room temperature was a problem. With the window open it was cool enough, but there was a lot of road noise. With the window shut it was nice and quiet, but too hot. But then it was the hottest day for decades, so most rooms would have been too hot!

Nice stay
Very welcoming and friendly staff and room is as you would expect for the price range. Good breakfast. Parking is on street and can be a minor problem on a busy evening.
