I would highly recommend Hotel Alpenhof to just about anyone. It's comfortable, lovely, so close to the Grindelwald train station, and tended to by fantastic owners and staff. The views are stunning, the food never disappointed, and it's a great place to take a family. We couldn't hear any noise from the other guest rooms. It was sometimes uncomfortably warm in the building, but you can control the heat in your room. We have zero regrets. (It's truly only if you have limited mobility and intend to go anywhere on foot that I'd suggest reconsidering - the hill it's on is extremely steep.)

This hotel is on a relatively steep slope for those who are not used to climbing up a lot. Even worse if you do not drive and need to pull up your luggage. At first I thought we would have a nice view of Grindelwald but our room was at level 1 and the view was blocked. The balcony greenery is overgrown with weed and there were no maintenance done. Security concern such as anyone could walk to your hotel room just by crossing the shared balcony space. Breakfast was ok. Staffs are very friendly and they try to assist you with your question. It is very close to the train station. If you are walking to First cable car, it would take 5-10mins.
